Good day

Has anyone signed up to Axxess' offer yet? I was wondering how their free router option is going to work. Is it free "free" or free to use "free"? Is it subject to 12 / 24 month contract or month to month.

I'm currently with them on DSL, but would love to get me some LTE-A - the 2x 55GB works out cheaper than my 8Mbps 50GB capped deal. I just wish Rain would expand their coverage before the end of November as I'm about 100m outside the "Zone"

Early on their website stated 6 months cancel before full price of R2499.
From their site : Should the client cancel their LTE-Advanced service within 6 months of receiving their free router we will automatically bill the client a prorata amount based on the price of the router which is R2499 and the balance of 6 months.

I just 'bit the bullet' and ordered one from Axxess. I'm sick of relying on the terrible wifi from my 'neighbors wifi' :P xD
Not sure if Axxess will have the issuses other's have, but lets see how it goes. I'll post results when I get the device and online with it.

Good luck. You only getting a B315 which is not LTE-A enabled so good luck with speed. :erm:

RAIN LTE hardly maxes out LTE speed, though the B618 is king!

Yeah but using the B315 you are sacrificing CA and that would lessen your chance of better speeds.... If you getting 20Mbps with LTE advanced with CA how is the speeds going to look when using a router connecting only to 1 frequency? You connecting to only 1 frequency and the B618 users in the area is also using that frequency so yeah I reckon it will go slow fast.

Yeah, not bothered about speed much. I'm content with the speed normal LTE offers.

Yeah I think you will be disappointed to be honest. The B618 is LTE A and even with LTE A Rain seems meh nothing special so now you are going to use a router that does not support LTE-A and would only connect to 1 frequency so then you will get even less.

Yes LTE only itself can provide decent speeds and MTN and Vodacom is a clear example but I doubt you going to see anything above 20Mbps with a B315 IMO.

Well this news is disappointing on the advert from Axxess and Afrihost. They clearly misleading us, the clients, in advertising the B315 as a LTE-A router. This is the reason i went for it.Ordered it yesterday and now i read this.

I see Axxess is still advertising it as LTE-A. I can't find anything on Afrihost site that mentions that the B315 is LTE-A.

Yes i see in the drop down they indicate the B315 as LTE Category 4 but on the main page they show both router under their LTE-A advert

I have logged a ticket with Axxess so awaiting their response as they already ran the debit order but when i phoned were told 10 days before i may get my setup

I've used Axxess ADSL in the past. I've had good experience with them responding to tickets timeously.

FWIW - even 20 Mbps is quite likely faster than the ADSL you were previously using. I upgraded from ADSL to the Afrihost LTE-A (though I did it early enough to get the B618). Tested it at a friend's place and even though I was getting ~8 Mb download speeds, browsing and youtubing felt brisk. At my place it's insanely fast though, nearly 50 Mb.

Still want to test what it's like with a Vodacom SIM, but I haven't had the chance yet.

I got the following response on Facebook:
"Our tests locally around Port Elizabeth have yielded download speeds of 42Mbps on the Rain Network using the Huawei B315. The device specification allow for speeds of up to 150Mbps. Please remember that speeds are determined by a many number of factors and are location based, areas within the coverage map generally reach speeds of between 10Mbps and 50Mbps"

Still doesn't explain why they have misleading ads. What if VW starts advertising that you can get a Bugatti for R200 000 and gives you a Polo with the explanation that due to traffic and speed restrictions you can use the Polo because you are only going to use it to drive 120km/h.

It's more like advertising a Polo as part of a "V8 Power" promotion, and then coming up with the same "due to traffic / speed restriction / bla bla". They are advertising a B315, not a B618, but it's just not got the V8 engine inside it like the other car on the list. But I get your point.

This is probably just haste to run with the promotions and not thorough proofreading more than deliberately misleading the consumer though. See Hanlon's Razor.

Yes had a few responses by email from my ticket but it clear the person responding is not from the technical department. Got the exact response as the one above from Facebook. Fact remains that they advertising it as a LTE-A product which it clearly is not

Also is there anyone who knows whom i can contact to check where my order is as again Axxess logistics say must wait 10 days..? Really

I am currently on 40meg VDSL out of interest

So if the one Axxess device isn't a LTE-A device one can then happily sign up for this as long as you get normal Vodacom LTE signal then?

With a Rain simcard that is not going to happen.

More free routers lol

It will probably work even you 100m outside the zone.

i was 50m at most out, service was bad! Moved it everywhere in the house but no luck of decent speeds and ping. Ping was at best 80ms for 5mins then shoots to 1000ms, speeds were anything from 4mbps to 11mbps average. Sent mine back until coverage is better

I see Axxess has the sim only deal with Free delivery of the simcard and 1st month free. :erm:
