Is there a purchasing limit at B&H?

I am trying to checkout but the payment does not want to go through. I was at the bank and all seems clear
at their side.

The Live chat function only is available at 9am US time but just thought somebody here knows a way around the problem. Maybe I will have to break up in multiple packages but then shipment costs becomes a problem etc.

Is this your first order through them? And if you dont mind me asking roughly how much are you talking about?

They do usually require a copy of your creditcard to be sent to them.

I've only had issues when the delivery address didn't match the creditcard address. I'd give them a call in the[ir] morning and see what the problem is.

If you're buying so much, consider visiting Expandore.com and using them. Alternatively, fly to Singapore and fetch the gear, it may work out same price or cheaper. The Expandore guys are very helpful and they have a nice little showroom to demo all their gear from the low end stuff to the HPX500s and up.

Don't recall any limit being mentioned, but as indicated above, they are very strict on delivery address matching that of the credit card.

They are very efficient, just stick all the items in your cart and send them an email and ask why it won't process.
Are all the items in stock ?

Just in case you don't know, for that type of value you will need to get an importers number from SARS/Customs or else they won't clear the package this side.
I think the limit used to be R20K, anything over you needed to register with SARS, and naturally your income tax needs to be up to date to get the number which is free.

Well he seems like a man of class and distinction so that rules out anything Nikon . . . . I'm thinking a 5DMk2 and some lenses.

Ok thanks for all the replies. I contacted them via the chat online just now and I am doing the ordering via email. Hopefully it goes through that way.

Now another question? How do I get importers number? or maybe is it better to split the order up so that the values is less than R20 000

Anyone maybe have a contact number?

It depends in part on where you're from. Our site advises, "For orders to Australia, Denmark or France: If you pay with Visa or MasterCard there is a maximum limit of $3,500.00 per order. This limit does not apply if you use Discover, American Express, or a wire transfer." If that's not the issue and you're stiull having difficulty, email me, please.

Regarding addresses. For non-US customers we will ship to your home or your job if it's in the same country as your home or to a residential USA address. Depending on circumstances you may not be able to complete an order like this via our website due to security considerations. We hope to be able to modify this in the near future.

Thanks for responding directly to this site, Henry.

I had a large order (similar to the amount discussed here) about 18 months ago, it went through fine, and there were no problems with the local bank wrt the credit card either. I had a import permit, so I was OK with customs.

I find it interesting that you mention that you will deliver to a work address - it would really suit me, but I always assumed that you wouldn't allow this - I must find out more about this, it is sometimes inconvenient to have it sent home, there is not always someone there to accept delivery (home is CC billing address).

Thank you very much Henry.

Only thing that seemed to work was I dropped the 5DmkII from the order and it went through.

Now the questions is do I order the 5DmkII on a separate order or do I try and procure locally at a bit higher price.

Happy to help. You won't be able to order this way via our site. You can fax or email. You could phone, but I think that'd be prohibitively costly and the time difference would make it difficult.

Order the 5DmkII on a separate order. Let me know if there's any difficulty.

Phoning is not a problem, I can call via VOIP or SkypeOut in the afternoon (local time) which would be morning in NY (SA 6 hours ahead).

Thanks, again.

South Africa is really stupid to have this 'importer's number' rule. I once tried to get it because some idiot in UPS told me I needed it. I applied at SARS. They never gave me a number. The form does not mention personal imports the time I checked. AFAIK it is only for business imports - personal imports don't count. Then again with SARS, you never know.

Enjoy the big fat VAT + Ad Valorem tax on your shipment.

It depends in part on where you're from... {Content of post is actually irelavant}

Wow, I don't believe this Henry. I have seen you on DPReview etc but never thought of ever seeing you on a local SA forum. Excellent service, your reputation precedes you my friend. Keep up the good work!

I'm honestly gobsmacked :D

Thanks. I have to confess I came upon this via a google alert or something similar. Nonetheless I;m happy to help anywhere I am able.

Even coming across this via a google alert... You registered here and responded to a post and that is amazing service :)

Another reason why people love B&H so much...

Oh, and welcome to MyBB..... :D

All is ordered and now just waiting.

Changed the 9stop filter to a 10stop B+W Filter. Cannot wait to do some extreme long exposures in the day.
