Hi

I need to backup various servers E.G. SBS 2008, SBS 2011, Server 2012 R2. I want to be able to do a bare metal restore and be able to restore to new hardware. What are "others" using in the industry. Thanks

I've seen allot of people shifting attention to backup exec for SMB.

I for one prefer the bigger Enterprise solutions such as TSM or MS DPM.

I used to work for a company called Attix5 (www.attix5.com). Very good software, even if I say so myself, and still going strong both in SA and the UK. They're used a lot in the UK school system to backup all their critical data.

I was on Backup Exec 12.5 for ages and hated the interface, but the software did what was required. I then upgraded to BE 2014 so that I could backup my 2012 R2 servers and the improvements are brilliant. The interface is so much better to use now and it backsup very quickly.

I tried using Veeam but in order to backup some VM's it needs to be installed on a dedicated backup server which I didn't have - I probably could have used a VM to install it. If I installed it on the HyperV host it wouldn't back up the HyperV VM's on the same server, so I removed it and went back to BE 2014. Haven't experienced any problems with it so far...
