Bad Driving thread

A particularly good evening for Darwin Award candidates tonight between Midrand and Illovo:

- about half a dozen drivers not understanding the concept of brights and dimmed lights,
- another half a dozen with almost invisible to no rear lights,
- two swerving dangerously from lane to lane unable to drive even slightly straight most likely from drinking very strong mineral water,

And the best:
- a taxi reversing with no reverse lights working in the middle of Corlett Drive who got almost hit by the car behind me,
- and a bakkie passing a red robot, almost t boning me with the brights on, on Corlett as well.

Glad to be home in one piece.

So today was enough to make my blood boil properly...

I was driving from Cape Road onto Park Lane heading down to Park Drive. For those of you who don't know, Park Lane is a two-lane road that becomes a one lane road that eventually joins another road that comes in from the right, making it a two land road again.

So I was in the left lane as 150m or so ahead of me I was due to turn left at the yield. This 'lady' in a clapped out Jeep with raised suspension, an exhaust that will make a stock car jealous and enough stickers to add a reasonable amount of weight joined in from the right lane and was adjacent to me, about a car length ahead.

I was going a bit faster than her so I proceeded to drive past her (me still in the left lane) and as I reached her she started drifting into my lane. I was about half my car length past her when she started drifting even more, with more than a tyre width into my lane. I took note that she had no indicator on, so she was either not aware she was moving into my lane or very absentminded and didn't know what indicators were. I quickly accelerated past her to avoid her smashing into me (there were cars parked on my left hand side so I could not swerve out) when all of a sardine she hooted and showed me some very foul hand gestures along with the 10kW worth of headlights fitted to her kitted out 4x4. My guess is she wanted to be in my lane as immediately afterwards she turned in behind me and started to tailgate me.

At the yield I turned left and stopped off, rolled my window down and flagged her to stop so I could ask her what her problem was. She ignored my request and sped away at full speed. I pulled in behind her but wasn't able to catch up to her until the traffic lights about a kilometer down the road. I tried grabbing her attention again but she was having none of it and continued looking in front of her like a race horse with blinkers on. I hope the kid in the passenger seat doesn't grow up with the same lack of road manners that she seems to have.

Either I am getting old and grumpy or the drivers on JHB roads are becoming increasingly stupid, reckless and flat out ignore the rules of the road.

Did a trip out to Magglies today and almost got taken out by a guy overtaking 2 cars. I was gripping the arm rest and all I could think was "ive seen this **** on liveleak!" Scary moment. My wife was driving and she did a great job at staying calm. Luckily the ****** pulled in front of pack in time before killing me and my family.

Also just absolutely gob-smacked by the assknuckles on the road. I can't deal with it.

Stay safe out there, man. You need to think for the other person on the road these days because their lack of knowledge of physics and the rules of the road can sometimes astonish me time and time again

You don't even need to drive far to find those.

It is as though the coming feastive season has infected many people with a type of brain rot that affects their driving.

Don't, this is not limited to J'burg only, happening in Cape Town as well. I had to stop at a green light a few times this weekend as people just cruised through red light as if it's bloody optional to stop. And only once was it a taxi.

A taxi driver made an illegal u-turn across my lane and took out my 10-yr old, paid off, fuel-sipping picanto. The w#$@er didn't bother to look if anyone was approaching in the right lane. A whole bunch of new debt pain awaits me, whilst I expect the insurance giggles at my payout chances.

If life were fair, I'd be allowed to go postal on his windows and tyres and perhaps chuck sand in his fuel tank, cos that heap of junk is almost definitely transporting people again.

He will still be driving his taxi with the battle scar from taking out your car...

Are you with one of those direct insurers causing you to feel like that?

Shucks, I feel for you buddy.

I'm with M&F and toying with the idea of lowering the insured value on my car from retail to trade-in. But seeing how people are driving these days...

Thx. Even though it's insured at "retail", something tells me the 270k+ mileage plus my excess puts me at a sad repayment. I'd planned to replace it a year from now, so this is most irritating.

It's crazy how selfish people are, blatantly ignoring basic and practical rules!

I'm also with M&F, now Old Mutual Insure, and I pay quite a lot. But i'll rather do that than change to Outsurance et al and stress like the poster above. Plus I've got no excess.

And people in biggenbeemers still sit on your ass even though the traffic is moving very slow.

What must you do? Give way for them so they'll sit on the person in front's ass again?

edit : what was with the traffic jam on the N1-N14 split just outside Centurion this morning?

Awww, looks like he's gonna do it anyway

IMG_20171201_090254.jpg

Alright, he is proceeding with his dodgy maneuver...

IMG_20171201_090255.jpg

O f*k, traffic!

IMG_20171201_090257.jpg

Another 15 meters and he would have connected with the oncoming Quantum
