First catch for my new dashcam:

Driver of silver Toyota Prado does not care for red traffic lights, a daily problem at this intersection, all this while they were discussing road safety on 702 as this incident occurred - Number plate: XWX 733 GP - 12 Jan 2015 - Garsfontein, South Africa

His wheels were over the line, while it was still yellow. Doesn't look that dangerous. Unless there was a green arrow to the left, the Landy was far worse.

And when are the people that want to turn right (our left), like the EcoSport, supposed to go over? When the lights are already green for the other road? Prado should have stopped, the light was orange long enough.

The landy didn't inconvenience other people so I don't care (there is no arrow, it's a bad intersection frequented by many idiots, and don't start me on the taxis)

And don't answer the question...

I'll answer the question... He was over the line on yellow. Could have accelerated and gone legally, as far as I know. Luckily he saw the EcoSport's intentions and hung back. EcoSport should have waited 2 seconds for him.

Is that really safe driving? When must the EcoSport drive?

Mmm, I wonder where we can get the manual on how traffic lights should be correctly used?

Yellow Light This indicates that the lights are about to change to red. You must not enter the intersection unless you are so close to the stop line that you are unable to stop safely without entering the intersection or risking a rear-end crash with vehicles following you -

There's an Aus guide for now, but they clearly suggest my line of thinking is right... I'll keep searching.

My interpretation of yellow is, if it turns yellow and you're before the line you stop. If you're over the line and in the intersection keep going. Not like he was traveling at speed so plenty of time to stop.

Edit: My other take Is: If you can't make it to the other side before that robot turns red then you should stop.

Landy was over solid red. Should also have stopped.

2 seconds later. Would still have been well clear of cross traffic... I just think you're being a bit harsh on the Prado driver. Think you guys deal with much worse drivers every day. I just deal with slow drivers, who don't indicate when they change lanes. Haha!

You're going to be seeing a lot of that intersection, I gave up turning where the EcoSport did, because one can easily wait 3 cycles of the traffic lights before going over because the oncoming traffic only allow 1 (max 2) vehicle/s through due to driving like the Prado, and if they stopped it could easily allow 3 or 4 to turn safely.

3.5.3 Yellow vehicular light signals
1 A STEADY YELLOW DISC LIGHT SIGNAL
indicates “to the driver of a vehicle that he or she
shall stop his or her vehicle behind the stop line
RTM1 and that he or she shall remain stationary
until a green light signal is displayed, and it is
safe to proceed; provided that if he or she is so
close to a stop line RTM1 when the steady
yellow disc light signal is displayed that he or
she cannot stop safely, he or she may proceed
with caution against such yellow light signal,
and in the event that a pedestrian light signal is
not provided, indicates to a pedestrian that he or
she shall not cross a roadway until a green light
signal is displayed and it is safe to do so”.

It was awful searching through that, but seems I am right...

Edit:
Much quiet
such wow
driving license some redo must

:p

A new video has emerged showing a minibus taxi narrowly avoiding a truck, before smashing into a Toyota Tazz, parked at a petrol station.

CCTV footage taken from the petrol station shows how the taxi driver loses control of his vehicle, after an apparent brake failure.

The minibus slams into a parked Toyota, before the driver climbs out the window and brings the taxi to a halt.

It is believed that nobody was seriously injured in the accident, which is said to have taken place in Johannesburg,

The footage comes after Transport Minister Dipuo Peters announced on Monday that fatal road traffic accidents increased by 11% over the festive period – between 1 December 2015 to 11 January 2016 – to 1,387.

The minister said that there were 220 more deaths over that period, up by 14% from the prior festive season, to 1,755 people killed.

Small motor vehicles accounted for 47.9% of total crashes, followed by light vehicles at 22.7%, mini buses at 10.1%, and trucks at 4.1%.

That isn't the intention of the law though. When you see yellow, if you are going slow enough to stop, you stop. If you are going too fast to stop, you carry on going.

This guy was easily going slow enough to stop.

Yes, with the proviso based on the way the current crop of drivers behave, that you check the moron behind you isn't going to rear-end you at speed as no-one expects you to actually stop at yellow lights these days.

I'll obey the law regardless of what the person behind me does. Not my responsibility to make sure they will stop and I will never drive through a yellow light when it is safe to stop, because of the person behind me.

Going through a yellow light because of an idiot behind you completely goes against the intention of the rules of the road, which is to make it safer for everyone.

It also means the idiot behind you will probably also go over the light, giving anyone who wants to turn (and there not being an arrow phase) even less time. I so agree with you.

Keep in mind the person behind you always does not look at the light, he only see your car's a$$ moving forward, and in response, will also move forward.

If you come to a sudden stop due to a yellow light, he'll most probably park his car's nose in your car's a$$....
