Wish I had taken down the registration number of the driver that decided he's the only driver on the road this morning. Turning right (there's only one lane turning right - the lane on the left has a sign on the road showing you have to go straight) and this idiot decides he's going to turn right from that lane, and squeezes into my lane, almost smashing into me. When are they going to invent zappers to zap these idiots to another dimension? Mars sounds good to me

So this morning driving back from Port Alfred I had two Polo's that made my morning:

The first one, a yellow Polo 1.4 FKB167EC apparently had a major steering rack failure as he seemed to not be able to move from the fast lane despite only driving at 110kph (unheard of in most Polo's, I know). This caused some minor grief for everyone behind him wanting to overtake, but eventually everyone just decided to overtake on the left. I sure hope he can get his steering rack sorted soon.

The second Polo had something to prove to me in my little sh*tbox Hyundai.

I was in the left lane on the N2 minding my own business, sticking to the speed limit when all of a sardine I see lights behind me. Curiously I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a red Polo TSI sucking my tailpipe. I thought it was odd that he didn't just overtake me on the right like normal people, so I sped up a bit just to see what he would do. 140 passed on the speedo...then 160... eventually at 170 I started easing away from him, but I was nearing some cars from the front so I started gradually slowing down back to my original speed of 120kph.

Bad move.

Suddenly the front of this Polo lit up like Christmas eve and I feel like I might have gotten arc-eye from all the light exposure. Fortunately my little stint must have caused a synapse to fire off in the Polo driver's head because he suddenly swerved into the right side lane and sped past me and I saw him mouth something off to me as he flew past which I can only presume went something along the lines of "DEUTCHLAND UBER ALLES!!!!11!"

:D

Just saw this moron reading a newspaper from behind the steering wheel. Never have I seen that before.

This is also a daily occurrence, happens every single day. I'm not sure they know what that yellow lines means.

This means you can't stop on the yellow line and have to consider it as a crossing.

Either you have space to pass it or you wait before, in order to allow cars coming from the side (typically from a mall or office building) to get in the traffic.

Do I spot one of those corny German flag stickers beneath the indicator lamp on his front fender?

And look at how bent his seat is from all the g-forces his massive acceleration has caused. Amazing!

All of that plus a stuffed dice hanging from the mirror.

People drive really k#k at the AF Louw traffic lights. This is a concern for me as I have to cross it with my bicycle twice daily.
Yesterday evening when I was heading home in my new car I was in front at the red light (next to the bakkie in your picture). The light turned green and as I started a rather enthusiastic pull away this chop comes in from where you are standing, right over a red light causing me to swerve into the left lane making way for him.

Edit : My wife has to cross it 4 times every day when she does the school run, she has had so many complaints of drivers stuffing up there.

I have had that same thing happen to me many times, also right there. If there is a car standing in the right turn lane, you can't really see if some moron is planning on jumping the red. But that's fine, the speed cameras will sort that out, as they are all over this bloody town.

Well the speed camera thing I kinda let it play into my favour :D I know about the one just before the R44 merges before Welgevonden so many folks will give you a gap if you are going fast because they want you to get caught - only I slack back to 80km/h before the camera (naughty me).

Last week my wife was waiting at the stop at AF Louw to turn left towards the traffic lights in your picture. She saw a car coming from the Helshoogte side but it had it's indicator on so she thought he was going to turn into the street she was currently in. Needless to say after she pulled away from the stop it turned out the indicator was on for the traffic lights. One very angry drive waving signs at her, but I would say an honest mistake.

That camera is almost always there, they should move it to the intersection by Nietvoorbij, that's a crappy intersection.

What we need on that stretch of road is actually less speed cameras and more security cameras. Far too many reports of pedestrians / cyclists and even motorists getting attacked on that stretch. I always ride on the Nietvoorbij side when on the bicycle, even when going home. Had one too many close encounter next to those blocks flats.

We jog up that road sometimes, also on the NVB side, seems the criminals are just waiting for you there. You must see how they steal at the surrounding farms, whatever isn't locked or caged in, get's stolen. But that's an argument for a whole different thread. :crying:
