Bad Driving thread

Talking about texting - I was nearly rear ended on the M4 going past Clairwood by an ass hat in a Citroen C3 (NUZ number plate) - I noticed the Citroen coming up fast - luckily I was in the centre lane and had room to pull over, as he didn't slow down at all, and as he passed me, there he was completely absorbed in sending a goddam text! Brainless bloody cretins!!

One of the perks of retirement is that I no longer have to fight my way through this madhouse every morning, thank heavens!!

Had a near miss yesterday, when a minibus decided to stop and unload passengers as I was changing lanes. I had to brake and swerve off the road, then jerked the steering wheel to avoid hitting the people as they left the taxi. Goodbye left front tyre. Sigh.

Perhaps instead of flipping the bird at everyone, you can simply put your phone down while you are driving and concentrate on the road.

I don't get it. You avoided hitting the people coming out of the taxi? How long was the taxi stopped before you realised you were going to hit it? Sorry about the damage.

When the traffic lights go out due to load shedding, everything turns to chaos.

Instead of people stopping and treating as 4/3 way people just see the guy in front going and proceed.
I stopped at 4 way traffic light section, 3 cars just drove at speed coming from my left, one was policeman in 4x4 texting.

I worded that poorly - there were people who crossed the road at the same place, not the passengers from the same taxi which I swerved out for. When swerving out to miss the taxi who stopped suddenly, the people by the roadside were directly in my path and i had to jerk the steering to miss them.

This morning some clown in a white Corolla was almost the whole way on my a$$ when I climed off from Watermeyer onto the N4, and then onto the N1.

Because three cars ahead was a slow truck, but the numpty decided to sniff my exhaust fumes.

Either my digital speedometer (Not that digital matters I suspect) is broken - or everyone on the right lane cruises at over 140kph on the N14 coming from Pretoria?

I feel like such an idiot going 120 speed limit slowing the whole world down? It is only a 2 lane highway so it's either break the law or do 80 depending on which lane you choose.

Bear in mind that you speedo will be overclocked a little, depending on the vehicle. It is possible that people going faster than you are doing 125 to 130. I mean, I set my cruise control to my GPS speed reading, which is generally a few km/h lower than my speedo reports.

That and because of that a lot of people drive just under 130 KM/h as cops only ticket at 131+ so your speedo may be at 120 KM but actual speed is generally slightly lower

Ja, noticed that odd anomaly.

GPS showed 100km/h, but I'm cruisin' at 120km/h...

BTW how accurate are the speeds from your GPS unit?

I don't know, I've always presumed that GPS would be more accurate than my car.

I've heard both sides, not sure which to believe.

I'm no expert but to be fair something that is only accurate to a few meters and could suffer from weather, LOS, wireless, software interference vs something directly linked to my car? Seems the speedo should be more accurate. If it helps I drive a '08 Honda Civic Sedan VTEC 1800. They probably do underclock it a bit.

Both are inaccurate but iirc GPS is more accurate since 'less' factors can affect it.
Cars speedo will report speed higher than actual (built in to make you think you going fast :D) and can be affected by factors like tire pressure, wheel size temperature etc
GPS are prone to under report speed when going uphill and signal quality from the satellites so in a tunnel wont work or mountainous area signal may bounce a little etc

nope -not your speedometer. also picked up that all people usually speed on the N14 - long straight open road is maybe reason enough to break the law. Me dunno.

I nearly got pushed off the road this morning while riding my motorcycle. Luckily my GoPro is always running just in case something like this happens.

I'll give this person a pass since I'm in a festive mood, but the next idiot might not be so lucky...
