The driver of the Aquatic Foods vehicle is too cool for queues, choosing instead to charge up the oncoming lane and force himself in at the intersection.

This guy fills my following distance without any indication. When I saw him charging up the next guys rear I backed off in case he didn't make it.

Technically, the bakkie and yourself should be in the left lane (you had way more enough time between two cars to go back to the left), which would have avoided him passing you by the left (which he shouldn’t do either).

Fair point.

I do try and make an effort to move out of the way for faster traffic. I had just passed some other slower traffic on my left when he suddenly appeared. Perhaps I could have gotten out of the way, perhaps he could be a little more patient.

Why shouldn’t he? He’s allowed to overtake on the left, and if the person hogging the right lane refuses to move over, then why should he not pass them safely on the left?

Keep left, pass right. He should be patient and first give the person in the right lane time to move out the way. You're not supposed to pass on the left.

Says who? This isn’t the UK, it’s South Africa and it’s perfectly legal to overtake on the left.

If everyone kept left, it would be impossible to overtake on the left. Everyone who whines about someone overtaking them on the left is guilty of driving in the wrong lane - stay in the leftmost lane and no-one will pass you on the left. Except for the odd taxi using the emergency lane...

Agreed - If I can pass you on the left, comfortably, then IMO you drive like a 530d

Slightly off topic.

This morning could have turned out quite differently, if I did not see this pedestrian cross the road, wittout even looking left or right.

After the incident I got that sinking feeling in my stomach, thinking what would have happened if I was also "lost in my own thoughts" like he was at that moment in time.

That happens altogether WAY too often...

There is something in pedestrians heads that seems to make them think they're invincible.

speechless :wtf:

On the I see this everyday. Having to dodge pedestrians you tend to notice them a lot more. Especially as I get closer to home and a lot of the packers from Blue Jay head home crossing the R44, some very carelessly and negligently. It won't be long before someone dies there.

This morning, coming down the R44 where it becomes a dual carriage way I see an old 323 sedan reversing, one wheel in the yellow lane, other on the road. A little bit further I see what appears to be a big cardboard box in the ghost island. Getting closed it is bent bonnet! Passing the 323 - not bonnet.

Not only do we have bad drivers we have very bad cars on the road too! Imagine that thing coming off and hitting another car, or a pedestrain - or me on a bike :wtf:

Black arrow = me, red cross = bonnet, blue cross = 323.

If one wants to be a 530d on the fast lane , then of course one will also drive like a 530d to force others behind him to overtake on the left. Everyone is a 530d on the road, who cares anymore.

Our car was hit a glancing blow across the windscreen by a flying steel hubcap as we crossed the Brooklyn Bridge.

It was 1964.

They sure knew how to make sturdy hubcaps in those days.

Luckily, our windscreen was sturdy also.
