Bad Driving thread

I very much agree with you. A LOT of people don't have insurance on the road because it is bloody well expensive. And the rules are honestly ridiculous, you're a 25 year old, your life is getting started, new license, new car, how the hell do they expect you to pay R2500 per month for motor insurance? It is ridiculous honestly.

If you cant afford insurance you cant afford to own a car , its that simple.Car ownership doesnt only mean the purchase price , it takes into consideration insurance , maintaince and fuel costs.

Old people are also crap drivers. :p

Talking about old people, on saturday night I stopped at a robot on Witkoppen at the police station (for those who know the area) heading to northgate mall, next to me a white elderly man in his Merc E-class 2005 I think, next to him a civic type r.
I had loud music playing with my windows down, so when the robot turned green we all just went for it. The old man had a pretty fast reaction... Civic was gone of course, I overtake the old man and he flashes me.

Stopping at the next robot, he rolls his window down and screams out to me with the biggest smile "young man, I'm just old and heavy but I am definitely not slow" for some reason my fiance thought that was so cute from the old man but old man youthful spirit really made my night.

Think that will work in ZA? You have lots of uninsured vehikkels on the road as most people can't afford inn-sewer-ants.

If they can bring a basic "jalopy policy" that'll cover accidents only, then I'll sign up for one. Otherwise it's too expensive for me, and I'd rather drive defensively and avoid nasty crashes etc. (I don't have inn-sewer-ants, being one of the many Saffers with not enough income to afford that...)

So under R200pm third party vehicle insurance (not third party, fire and theft) doesn't exist?

I agree with him actually. If you crash, you're without wheels yet still indebted to a bank. Good luck getting new finance for a replacement vehicle.

I don’t like uninsured drivers out there but I do understand their position. All the “hit a Ferrari and you’ll have an angry owner after thou for the money” are rubbish. The Ferrari will be insured and the insurance company will be the one who comes after you, and they’re not angry they’re businessmen, and if there’s no profit (ie you have nothing to give them if they sue you), they write it off and increase everyone’s premiums a bit to cover the shortfall.

A couple of years ago I was minding my own business, stopped at a stop street waiting for car to go past when a bakkie heading toward me jumped the stop street and slammed her, pushing her into me. I was the only one with insurance, and I felt really sorry for the poor teacher whose car was totalled and whose prospects of getting a cent out of the bakkie driver are roughly zero. For my part, I just claimed and carried on with my life.

I fully agree with him as well, owning a car is a lot more than just being able to pay the finance installments.

I also agree wrt insurance on a new car. Because of accidents and theft.

When it's old, paid for, you're like "meh" especially if you have severe financial constraints.

If that is your thinking it is no surprise you are in financial constraints.

Makes 2 of us, now, if you can successfully imbed such logic in Africa, you'll be the winner of the next Nobel Prize.

He is not wrong. Cnts driving around like that drive into you and you have to shoulder the burden of claiming from your own insurance, just because they wanted to save a few bucks. Cnts, the whole lot of them.

Didn't say he is wrong, this is Africa, you aren't going to convince people who don't even make their car payments to have insurance.

It would have been mandated had the people running the country not been thieving, self serving dumb cnts.

Just imagine how much looting would take place if we had a state owned mandated insurance system, joh joh joh all the money.

The Zuma touch, it will immediately turn to crap.

I think the issue is people who can afford it but don't take insurance. If they crash into a Ferrari with no insurance they go from middle class to lower class once the court cases are done. Those who truly can't afford it aren't going to be in a worse position as they're still be trying to make ends meet, living day to day like they always have. So no change for them.

Another important thing to note is that if everyone or many more people had insurance, it would be cheaper. The number of accidents/thefts won't change but you'd have more people funding the same claims.
