Bad Driving thread

Really enjoying this weather, however yesterday I shat myself on the way to Checkers. As I was slowing down for a red light in neutral, I felt my vehicle randomly pulling to the right, first thought was try to fight it, but then I realised I could be hydroplaning so I left everything, no brake, no accelerate, kept the steering as straight as I could, I just waited for the car to do what it thought was best. Luckily for me there were no vehicles approaching, just a cop chilling down the road watching what was unfolding. Eventually the car stops, I collect myself and drive off. Cop stops me, he didn't even ask for my license he went straight to checking my tires, comes back smiling and says jokingly "hai sir, you can go"

Always fun aquaplaning.

I've had it happen a few times, small light car and skinny tires, luckily I know to do nothing accept scream internally and clench your bum, it'll sort it's self out. Happened once around a long highway offramp at 100kmh, moved over a whole lane into the emergency lane before it recovered but luckily it kept straight and didn't spin or hit the wall.

The R21 JHB direction where it splits to enter the airport/ R21 Boksburg/ R24 Edenvale directions. Most of the time I come along to that point there is someone cutting across lanes because they were in the wrong lane. This happens 80% of the time when I travel through there so it is most likely happening all day long.

I lived in the Meadowdale area for 8 years and the frequency & number of accidents (some VERY serious with fatalities), caused by inattentive morons (driving in the 2 rightmost lanes reserved for traffic proceeding directly on the N12 section to Boksburg / Benoni) suddenly 'catching a last-second wake-up' & realising they're about to miss the R24 split to the airport, was horrendous - even though the two leftmost lanes can ONLY go onto the R24 and the middle lane gives you the dual option of either going left to the R 24 or proceeding straight-on & remaining on the N12.

Whenever a collision occurred there on a weekday, during either the morning or afternoon peak periods, traffic was then backed up all the way from either Eastgate on the R24 (the Albertina Sisulu Highway outbound from Bez Valley) and before the Van Buuren Rd off-ramp on the N3 in Bedfordview - which caused HUGE traffic congestion, frustration & delays.

It's NOT like they DON'T have any advance warning of what lanes to be in either, as there is a HUGE signboard on the Boeing Road East bridge that goes over the R24, that's only 800 metres BEFORE the actual R24 / N12 split comes up...

Whilst avoiding the daily commute since March is a huge benefit, it almost feels as if we're also starting to lose our driving sensibilities from lack of practice.

In order for this to be true one would have to believe that the majority of SA drivers had any sensibility in the first place.

We don't go out much and if we do it is short trips so I haven't got much footage lately, here are a few that I remembered.

In general, zero car skills, no indicating at a busy mini circle and then horrendous parking skills.

General confusion at mini circles.

Hey! Changing lanes NOW!

Traffic light not working, no problem, I am a small man on a small bike. (I may have simply paused at the traffic light to give the biker a scare :X3: )

It's a pleasure to get to work on weekdays in CPT. Still hardly any traffic (M3, M5, M7). But I stay home on weekends: "It's an 80 zone. WTF are you doodling around at 70 kph next to each other and I can't overtake??"

I missed another prime example of idiots in our suburb ignoring mini circles as I forgot to put the MicroSD card in my dashcam :X3: There was this guy who got frustrated wit hteh single lane sections of the R512 on Monday...

This sign near the end indicates it's dual lane ending in that direction, the section of which starts near the beginning of the video. So he is just overtaking slower traffic on the left that didn't move over to left?

68 YG GP, not sure on the first two characters.

@supersunbird what do you think the speed limit is?

i see nothing wrong assuming he wasnt excessively speeding, if anything you two slowed down once the road opened up and never moved left, if there is someone behind you and you have no intention to overtake the guy in front of you then move left...you arent a speed cop

There is a short bit of the N12 I take to work in the morning, every single day without fail these three things happen

When the two highways join from 3 each into a total of 6 lanes for a bit, everyone decides to scatter left right and centre.

The whole way the two right most lanes are going 110 & 150 respectively but trucks love to occupy the second most right lane going 70 even if its completely empty on the left, sometimes I really firmly believe they are trying to kill someone

Lastly around the Blind bend of the offramp to OR Thambo the traffic always comes to as near as makes no difference a complete stop for absolutely no reason whatsoever, watching people do an emergency stop from 140 around a bend is fun, one day soon, someone will die.
