:erm:

Were you watching it in slow-mo? the game was far from slow and far from boring. It was end to end stuff for 90% of the match...

Slow OMG your joking right?

End to end stuff, sure most of it midfield but far from boring.

I do not think brazil played poorly, they could get into their stride because we pressured and hussled them.

We gave them no time on the ball which meant they could find those defense opening passes.

Go bafana, looking good for the world cup i reckon. Need to get that C*** benni back though as we need someone of his class.

Yup! Much as i hate his guts, we need someone up front with his experience. Bernard parker is carrying too much responsibilty for such a young dude. But do you want to know a secret? The PSL's top goal scorer wasn't included in this team for no apparent reason. When reporters asked Santana for his reasons, he refused to comment. Maybe we should give him a chance first before we go grovelling to Benni.

I think they did very very well. I honestly believe we could have won if some if the kicks were better planned and executed.

For example: Lots of times when Pienaar put someone into space along the sideline the player just kicked the ball across to the box for a header, but most of the times it was executed very poorly because he was not patient enough. Kicks went over all the players and in touch or straight into the hands of the goalie.
There was also a few times in which we got close to the box 3 or 4 times and instead of just waiting for support or looking at other options, they just took a bash at the goal. Failing each time because the kick goes over or to the side of the goal.
But to even get into those positions, so many times, against a team like Brazil. BRILLIANT.

I am sure it will come with time.

He also left out Nasief Morris (although there was a reason for that)

Yea apoc i fully agree man, i sometimes find we are too eager to shoot, rather try and slip a pass in than have a wayward effort.

I can't believe this thread LOL!

Let me say again for the record, I DON'T watch soccer except if it's really big games. To be able to see Brazil in action against us wasn't to be missed so for once I watched the game (on tv) from the start and I was gutted afterwards. So not sure which game OP watched but I just had someone at work come up to me and go on about how good we played.... and this is also someone who don't normally watch soccer.
We played very well and I think this was the game that gave most people hope that we could be competitive next year.

So let me join most of the respondents, well done Bafana :)

Anyone who calls a midfield a 'middlefield', should not be critiquing Bafana Bafana about last night.

There were many players who had a good game last night:

Pienaar.
Modise
Gaxa
Tshabalala
Booth
Mhlongo

6 players had a good game and no goals?
Modise played well? Hahahaha!!! I wanna see what his bad game looks like?!
Tshabalala played well, yes!

I just feel that we did all the hard work to get into that position and then to go and blow it by trying schoolboy soccer tricks. That is not cool. Rather try going inside the box and winning a penalty or take a split second longer before executing the kick. I understand that the pressure from the defenders are there but they had lots of time in some of those cases.

But I believe with experience will come the patience.

In future I want to watch every Bafana game like I did last night.
On the edge of my seat.

Considering that all the other teams got here by way of beating others, something we haven't achieved up to now, I think we did very well. For once in quite a while, we looked like we knew what needed doing with the spherical device! Now if only Spain have lost their interest in the contest ...

The best Bafana have played for years. Period. We were unlucky to lose to Brazil and were not embarrassed by Spain - that says a lot.

I partly agree with both the OP and the rest ... We can't be exhorting on negative results as if we won. I am though happy that we finally have a coach which brought back unity and eagerness, style and tactical or clinical soccer within the squad. That means we have a team to work on towards 2010 and the confed cup was here as a contingency plan to evaluate our capability. I'm happy with how we've done considering where we coming from. We need to build/buy/still strikers from somewhere ... Maybe some from this forum can start joining soccer as a new striker to rock the country ...

I am happy they played well but didn't win...

If they had, they may have become complacent. Now they know they can mix it with the very best, even outplay them, and they have some ideas on what to improve.

i for one am proud of the boys, they went out there and gave it their all, thats what we want, im especially glad to see the overall positive response from most forumites, good stuff!! I wont lie, I could only catch the last 20 minutes and when they scored that goal I was genuinely disappointed, the first time I have ever felt that way about bafana losing.

All I can say is bring on the World Cup, it is going to be EPIC!!!

Your missing the fact that brazil are such a good team and walloped italy 3-0 and usa and they only beat us due to a moment of brilliance how can we be negative about that?

Just because you lose does not mean you should not take some positivity and pride in what you achieved.

I thought we played better and had far more goal scoring chances.
