Baldur's Gate 3

New patch is out, and...

Baldur's Gate 3 "unlikely" to be released this year says Larian

Plus the details on today's Barbarian Patch 7.

I hate to break it to you but Baldur's Gate 3 probably isn't going to be fully released in 2022. Remember, a part of the game has been available in early access on Steam and Stadia since autumn 2020.

"We think we're in our last year of development," Swen Vincke, founder of Larian and creative director of BG3, told me in an interview last week.

"We do still think we have a year of development ahead of us, so it's unlikely it will be this year [2022]. But we are at the end, so we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now. We have a pretty concrete plan."

In an adjoining press release, received today, Larian added: "Our internal goal post for release is a quality bar rather than a date. A ton of progress has been made towards that quality bar over the past year in Early Access, but we know many players are waiting for an actual date. That date will come when we're even closer to meeting our goal, but right now our expectation is that Baldur's Gate 3 will be released out of Early Access in 2023."

As long as it's a good game.

I don’t mind the wait, but I have an idea that it is a bad idea to have invested early in the title. It is an expensive early access to have. When you look at the graph, not too many who have bought it remained engaged with the development. This latest patch has hardly brought any testers back into it.

Then again, I also bought The Masquerade 2, and... nothing.

Probably because of IP and scope vs DoS1 and DoS2's EAs which felt faster and perhaps more focused?

Personally I've totally parked this game until it is done.

I started playing this last week sometime and do enjoy it but may actually just stop now and also wait for the full release.

I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the camera/perspective though, my preference is more to the standard isometric style.

ah, yes. Another year passed and another DLC for Solasta. So where is my divinity original sin III? It is kinda trending towards elite dangerous x star citizen

At least BGIII should be no shroud of the avatar. But...

The unicorns haven't landed yet. Perhaps some life time we will get the vampire game we deserve and want to pay for.

Didn't Larian give people a Bard to play with recently? I don't expect this game to release in 2023 IMHO, possibly beta, but it will be released in 2024.

I am wrong,

Dev Blog: Patch 9 is Coming

Like a team of infernal reindeer, the next major update for Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming in for a smooth yuletide landing — yes, new features will be live before the year is out, accompanied by a festive Panel From Hell that will give you a peek at what’s to come in 2023!

In the Community Update accompanying that Panel From Hell, we’ll go into detail about some of the most discussed topics in the community. The good news is that we’re on track for release in 2023 – and we’ll have more on that in December. Acts 2 and 3 of the story are being actively playtested to ensure they’re up to the same level of polish and you’ll soon discover that there’s much more in the works (or already complete) than what you’ll encounter in an Early Access playthrough. Our goal is for even the players who have repeated Act 1 over and over again for hundreds of hours to feel like there’s a whole new experience in store for them at launch.

We're still paying close attention to all your feedback, bug reports, comments, your fan art and jokes – they sustain us, so please keep them coming or we will grow desperate and you’ll discover us consuming pigs’ blood in the middle of a Belgian motorway like a certain vampire spawn. Whatever it takes to get the game out, you know?

In all seriousness though, it takes time to tell a great story, implement feedback, and iterate on such a large game, so we want to thank you for your patience as we get closer to Patch 9.

We’ll see you in December – the dress code is “Christmas from Hell”.

I was expecting it in 2024 some time.

I am wrong,

Prediction: half baked divinity original sin "3"

I could be wrong but one of characters in the new trailer seems to be jaheira.

I have access to play this but somehow just can't convince myself to get stuck in.

I am curious since Baldur's Gate 3 at this time is still an early adopters title being pre-release I am curious whether they will announce a Game Pass release? The Steam discussion boards will be quite entertaining then.

I have EA once, will probably do one more before game releases. Don't want to do too many without having access to the full game
