Baldur's Gate 3

Cant go back once you have entered shadowfall. So Im pretty much stuck there until that moonrise quest is done.
Change your party before the fight.
You need Gale and his area of affect spells
Wyll may also be good as he has a few aoe spells of his own

If you have enough potions get rid of Shadowheart

Ideal line-up for this fight would be Wyll, Gale and Karlach. If you need Shadowheart for healing then Swap Wyll with Shadowheart. She does have some good aoe spells if you leveled her decently

Don't forget that you can check what speels you have by going to the inventory and selecting the spells/skills tab
The ones you can use in battle are not the only ones you have. Check to see if you do not have ones that may fit this battle better and swap them out with ones you won't need
Don't forget to long rest afterwards, otherwise they won't be available in the battle after swapping

This game is too funny, I got turned into a small cheese wheel at the circus. I was just rolling around for a while like a tire. hahahaha.

Also RIP framerate on act 3, I'm pressing F.

You can skip past the Steel Watch guarding the Bridge as a wheel and grab the portal to port

Just started Act II and still trying to avoid as many spoilers as possible.

Something I have noticed is how much my creativity and problem solving skills in games have declined. I am struggling to progress as I am lazy to explore and lazy to redo fights when I need to reload due to horrible deaths.

My fights tend to feel the same as I generally use the same cantrips and actions. I under use spells and creative abilities like hold person, convert undead, speak to dead etc. I also feel rushed as I constantly want to maximise my play time - I generally have 1 hour sessions and often lack that sense of accomplishment I get from other games.

I'm trying to get some of that back as that is where the joy used to come from. Man, it sucks to get old.

This game is great and I really want to make the effort to improve on these "issues".

Seems like you need to change your play style

That's how crazy good this game is. You can basically change the entire style of the game by just changing your
class

I'd say try starting a new playthrough as a bard and max out all charisma option you have. You will change the game into a point and click adventure game. The game can be completed with next to no battles at all (Some areas require fights that are story locked and cannot be avoided)

You may find that the change you need to get back into it

When I am done with my current playthrough I may attempt a pacifist run. (You can be a pacifist even with forced battles as you can change your attacks to knockout only for your entire party) and try not killing anybody and talking my way out of most situations

I find that the dialogue is the most rewarding aspect of the game

Thanks for this. I actually want the opposite of a pacifist run. I enjoy combat and making tactical / strategic decisions. The point I was trying to make quite poorly, is that my laziness is resulting in me not making tactical / strategic choices, but instead defaulting to the same approach each time. I suspect I do this for fear of having to redo it if the experimental approach doesn't work and partially that the game lets me get away with it. A potential argument is that I could increase the difficulty.

I'm complaining from a very privileged position. I enjoy the game, I know its potential, but laziness and lack of imagination is limiting my experience. :)

It might be the game, though

I have found that there are a lot less tactical choices than what was available in Divinity Original Sin 2
Environmental advantages and disadvantages is Baldur's Gate's weak point in my opinion.

In Divinity almost all battles would have some form of environmental aspect to it.
Water, gas, oil, large pools of blood, platforms you can destroy, explosive barrels, water barrels, fog, flammable grass and I'm sure I am missing a lot.

Baldur's gate has some of those some of the time and does not change battles nearly as much as it does in divinity.
Setting something on fire in Divinity could change the tide of battle entirely

It's just not present as much in BG3

After one complete playthrough and halfway through my current run I've never had to use the environment to win, excepting pushing enemies off cliffs or into water.

For me it seems BG3 focuses more on your party and the skills/spells you choose when leveling up

Environmental stuff seems a lot more important out of battle in BG. Using flight to reach a different entrance. Using befriend to win a speech check. Turning into gas to fit in holes. Going invisible to avoid guards, etc.

Battles are still fun and there are some really tough ones, but it is not nearly as tactical as Divinity

Final battle in the House of Hope took the better part of 3hours to figure out.

Fantastic

I loved the environmental aspects of the game. Have an electric bolt? Throw water on the ground first and zap all the enemies. Have fire? Throw oil. I found a ton of uses for it.

One of my best is putting a bunch of oil in a backpack and then throwing that and casting firebolt on it. Massive explosion, death everywhere. Glorious.

Fantastic
House of Hope should be renamed House of Pain

That was bloody tough, but again. Never needed to use the environment, but definitely needed a certain character

It is definitely present, it is not as game changing as in Divinity is what I am trying to say.
There are battles in Divinity you simply cannot win without using the environment around you

Putting the Anti-magic (Sussur bloom) on the floor next to a caster makes for a hell of a fun time watching them mindlessly not knowing what to do in combat

There is the one room full of kobolds in the monastery, I barely touched them, there were barrels and things I used to kill them.

Apparently it's a trick for one of the spell casters, so while in dialogue switch characters and sneak up behind them to drop off the sussar bloom

I know exactly where you mean. Have you seen this?
Watch from 5:30.
