Baldur's Gate 3

Killed Gortash, just the Elder Brain left to do I think.

So how would you guys rank all companions?

1. Minsc - not only a strong fighter but also hilarious. Always been the best.
2. Lae'zel - my best, strongest fighter by far. Great character, love that she always has an attitude lol. Also my orc's ex. The selfish ***** doesn't like sharing haha.
3. Karlach - second best fighter and great story. Love the end of her quest.
4. Shadowheart - another great story and my best magic user and healer. Also great in melee.
5. Astarion - my only stealthy guy really and love his story and final battle as well.
6. Jaheira - not bad for a grandma like her. A little on the boring side though.
7. Gale - great wizard, can be a bit annoying at times.
8. Halsin - strong fighter but too damn boring. Still likeable.
9. Wyll - been my weakest fighter since I got him and he's way too serious. By far the most boring but he does know a couple of powerful spells at least.
10. Minthara - I killed her :p

1. Shadowheart my favourite story and her final fight I think is the hardest in the game.
2. Karlach she's is just cool and like her throwing skills.
3. Jaheira was awesome, loved her story but made her into a paladin and they hit hard.
4. Laezel didn't use her in first playthough but enjoying the fighter strength but not as strong as a paladin.
5. Astarion irritates me but has a cool story.
6. Gale is ok but prefer him as a sorcerer.
7. Halsin, Wyl and Minsc are boring in my opinion.
8. Haven't played Minthara.

Difficult fight for sure. Raphael's was much harder though.

Also had a more difficult time with the goblins at their castle in act 1, the final battle in the Underdark against those dark gnomes and the Steel Watch in their factory (to name a few, the game can be really unforgiving).

For Raphael I used illuminate on my weapon with my paladin and then had the wet/freezing field so just grouped everything and smooshed them. I think I did it first time.

I really battled with the darkness in the shadowheart fight and everything was spread out. I also went there at level 9 or 10 and was saving after every attack incase I missed and then would reload.

Have you done the final fight yet?

Really struggled with Raphael. Took 6 or 7 tries to finally beat him.

I was level 12. Killed everyone on my second try with Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Astarion, my barbarian Orc and 6 zombies :)

The brain? Nope, discovered more side stuff and still have to finish Wyll, Lae'zel and Gale's stories before the end. Almost there...

I'm still in Act2, so haven't unlocked all companions. But Lae'zel and Shadowheart are top for me. Lae'zel because she does so much damage, and Shadowheart because she does so much healing. I switch out between Gale and Astarion depending on the situation, but mostly run Gale. A pretty cookie cutter setup I suppose, for my next run I will switch things up more.

I'm so lost in this world. Never played anything DnD related in my life. Watched summaries on BG1 and 2, and about to watch one on how the BG3 combat/rolls/stats work.

Can someone sum up the idea of the BG3 story in a very very spoiler light manner for me

So there's some creature (mindflayer, or mini one or something?) in my brain and it's going to kill me unless I get it out or something? Why is everyone tagging along?

Mindflayers reproduce by implanting into hosts and taking over
You got a worm
Your (initial) companions have worms
Some other people have worms
You'd like to not transform and have your mind taken over
Other people feel similarly
Story escalates into an epic adventure with many related and unrelated side adventures

Shadowheart my favourite story and her final fight I think is the hardest in the game.

I did this one last night, loved the encounter and it took me around 5 tries but in the end I devised a good plan to counter the BS darkness that they cast: Gust of Wind. That and Lae'zel once again just completely obliterated so many of them on her own. Funny enough, I put some poison on her sword and she delivered the killing blow to Viconia which sorta bugged her out, she was dead and knocked out at the same time and I could still talk to her lol:

Oh and the first time I tried this encounter was funny, my paladin killed himself in two shots due to Viconia having return damage on any radiant damage done :|

Nice, I am coming up to that quest in Honor mode and dreading it.

I have a strategy though going to use Minthara and her darkness ability to bully them.

I found something cool as a paladin you can break your oath and become an oath breaker which is crazy strong and suits minthara to a T.

Lae'zel remains my MVP. Killing
Orin

in a single turn from almost full health.

Guess these bosses are tuned for lvl 10 and me being 12 doesn't really help their case lol.

I have 16 hours in this game. Still on Act 1 and taking it slow while I try and understand the mechanics.

I respecced Asterion into a Rogue Thief where his two more skills, Fast Hands and another one, can't remember.

I don't see an option to select these in, or outside of a fight.

I also started playing with Wyll last night and I levelled him up. I am confused about the Forget Spell and Remove Spell in the level up screen.

Can anyone provide info on this?

In the spell tray at the bottom of the screen there are red bars. They're sliders. If you have more spells than can be displayed in your box, you just don't see the others. You can click the + sign on the right hand side of the spell bar to view more slots, you'll probably find your missing spells there.

Forgetting or removing spells are optional steps. You can only know so many spells, so you can forget a spell in order to free up a slot to learn a different spell. You don't have to though.

Removing a spell should simply be removing a known spell from your active spells to make space for a different selection. You still know the spell it just isn't set as active.

I am confused about the Forget Spell and Remove Spell in the level up screen.

Spells need to be prepared before you can use them. Classes like Paladin, Cleric, Wizard and Druid have a large selection of spells they can use and they can prepare them anytime outside of combat. Other classes like Rogues can only have a small number of spells and these can only be selected/prepared when you level up. So the remove spell screen is for when you want to change spells for those classes, at least that's my understanding.

Funnily enough, my hardest fights were in the early days. Now they generally seem quite easy. Maybe it's because I'm still in Act 2 at level 8?

And I have almost never used the environment - use the same basic tactic so the game is starting to get a wee bit boring. Need to change things up.

There is a few fights in Act 3 that's hard and barely made it out alive. But then again even Act 2 had it moments for me.

Maybe up the difficulty?

Maybe I should try that - but then it will most probably become too difficult :)

Finished my first play through - went for the good ending. Was pretty happy with it and loved the game. Act3 was a bit of a let down, not sure exactly why though - in the end I just wanted it to be done. Maybe also because I hit the level cap pretty early on and that sorta trivialised most fights?

I also experienced some jank, more than I expected to be honest. No game breaking bugs at least but they definitely need to spend some time fixing up issues, especially on the console versions - PC is probably in a better state.

All in all, probably one of my favourite games ever, will do another run at some point with completely different characters.

Act3 was just ok compared to the first two. Too much talking imo and the city itself is kinda boring to explore. Was also getting a bit sick of all the politics and everyone complaining about everything.

Act3 isn't terrible but it could have been better.

Act2 was my favourite, the setting was awesome and the final boss even more so
