Bandwidth prices hurt MultiChoice

So how much longer are the big companies going to be complacent?

How much longer are the big companies going to solve the problem instead of finding workarounds?

I guess it's forever, so far it feels like it's been forever already, but what would another forever hurt, right?

Why do we even pay for using local bandwidth? Isn't that supposed to be free?

I don't understand at all.

Unfortunately the EC Act states that local bandwidth should be unlimited, it however, does not state that it should be free. ISPs are unfortunately allowed to charge for it. Yet another oversite by ICASA imho and another slimy intrusion by the DoC and our wonderful minister of miscommunication which puts more cash straight into their pocket from the consumer.

If it was free then how would the operators be able to pay for all the wonderful local fiber networks they are busy rolling out  There is no such thing as a free lunch you know

That said - I do agree that bandwidth costs are over inflated and traffic that is destined for local users seems to be priced the same as for international users in most data centers.

International prices maybe, but surely not local. I say that because I assume he is talking about seacom etc, but that wont affect local bandwidth prices, or will it?

Well, at the mo, all hosting traffic is priced as international. So the only real hope is a sharp drop in international bandwidth prices.

Data TransferLlimit: South Africa 2000MB
Cost per MB moved over Data Transfer Limit: R0.09 (R90/Gig)

Whereas if I host overseas, paying an equivalent $10 per month, I can find scores of hosting companies providing unlimited bandwidth for my website.
this makes me sick

****ing DOC/ICASA
why can't we have some good people running the show!?

They should have looked into a torrent distribution network, create a torrent client for their users, have the tor files linked to their accounts, download.
