The world soccer governing body and its technology partner, MATCH, had not anticipated the extraordinarily high cost of bandwidth in this country when awarding the 2010 Soccer World Cup to SA, reveals Dick Wiles, the CEO of MATCH.

As a result, MATCH has been forced to re-evaluate and “dumb down” its technology solutions in order to stay within budget, Wiles told ITWeb yesterday during an exclusive interview.

“To be honest, it [the cost of bandwidth in SA] is not something we were first aware of,” he says.

Well, that is pretty ****ing stupid of them not to have done due diligence.

Sorry.

Don't think they can "dumb down" DoC officials any more as they are. They're as dumb as they come.

Telkom , making 2010 world cup (im)possible!!!

epic FAIL from MATCH if you ask me...

How the fsck can you not check on the costs of the infrastructure in the country you are wanting to operate in. If you are providing technology solutions for something like the WC, one of the FIRST things you'll check is the costs of providing those solutions through the incumbents in the country.

With revenues enough to keep FIFA going without a world cup in 2014 I dont see how they need to cut down costs. FIFA already have revenues 30% higher than Germany 2006 with 2 years to go.

That's rich - the information feed for the biggest sporting event in this country's history is held to ransom by a scum-sucking, bottom-feeding monopoly.

Now they know how we poor consumers feel.

Perhaps Neotel can do better.
