Battery thieves target Vodacom

Like other mobile networks in South Africa with widespread network infrastructure, Vodacom's base stations have been subject to constant vandalism and theft.

This, compounded with the detrimental effect of load-shedding on hardware, has required additional investment in battery backups for base stations and power distribution.

Pretty much our entitled “I demand” or “I am owed by the world” mentality that is what got us here.

Thats always been my biggest gripe with SA compared to a nation such as the US or Japan.

Lack of self discipline, lack of enforcement and lack of pride. Mediocrity is what we should strive for.
No identity similar to “The American dream” we dont have that in South Africa because each culture group wants to undermine and avoid each other as far as possible and go as far as possible to satisfy only ones own needs.

Hope they steal more batteries, i would buy them if somone sold them to me, just like how Vodacom rapes people with R149 for 1gig of data in 2019 which is a few mins on YouTube. The poorest of the poor who use prepaid have to pay mad prices for data, criminals must rape vodacom, i love it wen vodacom gets own medicine back, the share holders in Europe must be sad because vodacom profits will drop slightly, shame, South Africans should not care, vodacom has refused to bring affordable data to South Africans, hope many more towers get raped

Unbelievable! Who do you think they pass the cost on to at the end of the day. Really stupid thinking.

Shocking
They should be placed in a cell after a comprehensive charge.

What is wrong with country is majority cant even afford data, that's why stealing is way out, they will sell batteries to buy data so no loss for vodacom, oneday stand infront of the mirror with your family the people u see in mirror are "fking retards"

Leave South Africa, go, i hear Australia is wanting South Africans, remember our country has 70% of people living in poverty conditions and cellphone networks want to charge prepaid users R149 for a gig, just imagine a child raised by granny's pension wants to do school project and she needs 1 gig of data, her granny will have a heart attack at R149 gor 1 gig, so dont compare other countries to South Africa, majority of the people where denied education to keep them labourers, those same people we all have to live side by side, so blame the old days for what you going through now.

If you are living in poverty, data should be your last concern

A job
decent housing,
Health care,
protection against thieves like these

That is what you should be worrying about.

Honestly think he is a troll. You know the sad part is that even if he is just an online troll there are so many individuals such as himself that occupy leadership positions within political parties in the country.
Once again it ties in with my comment on nation building that their weapon of choice is simply to sow devision.

Its almost as if you always hear hysteria and nonsensical narratives. Its a futile exercise to debate with a troll.

I have to say if I had to respond to one point he made at the end about the past and thats why we have this theft problem now.

I think he is mistaken in thinking that anybody has ever denied or for that matter not recognized that inequality and social damage wasn't caused by apartheid system. I would rather ask him a question and say what are YOU going to do about it then? Yes, him as an individual even if its the smallest of things.

I am pretty convinced that his response will be one of little ideas and hysteria coupled with anger looking at his posts.

Say what u want as long as big companies milk the poor the poor will attack, and you the rich consumer with bright dreams and a lovely future will have to pay the cost, remember you can complain all you want about South Africa but the ANC will never lose an election. Private companies are guilty of milking the poor and creating conditions were crime pays, trust me vodacom won't feel the cost of replacing the batteries, take look at the yearly earnings, if vodacom and mtn can offer cheap calling and data plans maybe the same criminals will rather stream soccer or call the girlfriend instead of stealing the batteries, remember everyone needs an income and these guys are doing what Robin Hood will do steal from the rich, vodacom is over rich!
