Actually, it would be cool if there was an AA class as well. Infantry mobile stingers would be awesome.

Enemies are ALWAYS red.
Teamies are blue.

If you're used to BF1942, this will confuse the k@k out of you! :)

Also, sometimes the label tags don't show up in time, especially if you're flying... so you tend to get accidental TK's, or team vehicle damage if you're not careful. Sigh.

Sometimes tags don't show up at all... in this case, I was about to knife an enemy, but I had no idea who it was: IMAGE (might be slow to load) until I killed him. Then I discovered it was a good friend of mine, hehe. I thoroughly enjoyed knifing him. ;) IMAGE 2

You'll also see green tags who are part of your squad [if you're in a squad]

So to summarise:

Red = Enemies
Blue = Friendlies
Green = Squad member [i.e also a friendly]

Yeah, the server automatically deducts points from you for a TK, so teh only need to punish is if someone is spoiling the game. Driving like a twit, bomb splash damage etc don't really count as spoiling in my book.

EDIT: Aaah, mashtuur city, I know you well . . . :)

to add more to the ID tags then check your RADAR on the top right and if there are NO BLUE dots around you then kill everthing in sight! :D

Good stuff.

So of all the people to choose from what would you guys recommend i start with?
IE the unit/person that is easiest to play with in terms of his role and how easily it dies etc.

Thx

Pick one basically.
The sniper (in my opinion) is really difficult to get the hang of. I still pretty much suck when I try that class.

Something to bear in mind though, is that some classes differ slightly, depending on what nationality you are. The main differences come in between the USMC & MEC / China .. the MEC & China don't differ too much.

For eg, the sniper weapons - US is single shot, but quite powerful... the MEC/China is semi-auto, but weak, so it takes 2-3 sometimes more shots to get a kill.

The assault class, US's weapon has a burst mode / single shot, MEC / China have full auto / single shot.

Unlockable weapons are the same no matter what nationality you play.

Start wif infantry.
It's fun grenading peeps [Gun grenade] - expecially bunches of peeps.
And learn to throw hand grenades and run like hell, and hide behind corners and pray that the APC did not see you.

It some times depends on the map you are playing. Some maps have a lot of armour so the anti-tank kit is pretty useful. Sniper can always be an option if you want to sit quietly in a dark corner with a view on the flag. The support weapon is very useful in a fire fight - tend to be useful in urban maps. Special forces is a good all rounder.

Amen to that - I got TK kicked in less than 5 minutes the first time I played, 'cuz I was switched after the first time I died :p

Start with basic assault - powerful weapon, armour, grenade launcher. You can contribute to almost any fight, if not dominate it, ie balance.

And don't "Lone Wolf" for too long (play alone). Join a squad, and tell the guys you're new and ask for direction, most guys are pretty helpful - if the other team is coherent and you're not, you're as good as dead.

I also got TK kicked the first day I played for shooting down a friendly chopper full of hoppers when the tag on the chopper did not appear in time. I have since learned to think twice before shooting if there is no tag indicating friend or foe, so I have never been kicked after that one. It means some missed kills and deaths for me, but is still better than the heavy penalty one pays for a mass TK.

I also agree assault is the best class to play until one understands what is going on. Then try each class and settle for the ones you like best.

You just need the patch and for nvidia cards you need fairly up to date drivers, which I think comes with the game. SGS use the standard maps that comes with the game.

You also need an open space on one of the 4 SGS servers.
Getting scarce them ...

Patch it.

Start BF2, register your nick, set your graphic options, test them in single player mode. Check your key configurations.

Exit BF2 - rename the movies (C:\Program files\eagames\...\movies\*.bic I think) to something else so they don't load every time you start.

Install XFire (From www.XFire.com).
Add these servers to the Favorites section of XFire [You'll have to wait about 1 hour for XFire to load the complete list of BF2 servers, so it's better to go manual]:
196.4.79.20:16567 -= SGS BF2 RANKED I Server
196.4.79.31:16567 -= SGS BF2 RANKED II Server
196.4.79.26:16567 -= SGS BF2 RANKED III Server
196.4.79.28:16567 -= SGS BF2 RANKED IV Server

XFire will tell you who's playing on the servers, what map is loaded ect.
Double click to join the game.

Nope - no pre-ranking on the servers. If you can get in - play.
