It sounds interesting. Should shake things up a bit.

One thing I don't think they can really solve, though:

I was playing BF1 quite casually (as opposed to heavily like BC2/BF3/BF4) for whatever reason, and it became practically impossible and thus frustrating. You just get constantly slaughtered by players that play constantly.

I'd have thought most people would acquire BF V through EA Origin Access Premier. R1.2k a year for all the EA games. FIFA 19 and BF V justify the price by themselves, and then you consider every other game (like Anthem & Unravel 2) and all the included DLC. I'll be taking out a sub once FIFA 19 is playable.

Is that an official local price for premium?
Because the cost states side is $15 a month

At the current exchange rate that's R2.5k a year


* I see now it's R200 per month or a fixed R1200 if you take the package yearly
 
EA access premium is only beneficial if you really like EA games.
Apart from the yearly sports titles, how many big games do they release a year?

This year the biggest hype is BFV and Anthem
Anthem seems like the division in a mech suit. So pass.
Starwars is now a disaster.

Battlefield is the only real draw.
Now consider this. BF 1 was released 2016
That's 2 years. Save to say the next Battlefield (if there is one) will be another 2 years.

To enjoy Battlefield V till the next release will cost you R2400
Purchase price to own forever R950 (wait for a special or get a bargain on cd keys etc - R650)
What happens if BF V is dead after the first year? (BF 1) and you already got your second years subscription?
Screwed

Only makes sense if you like EA's yearly generic sport reskins.

I bought into pre-ordering BF3, BF4, Hardline and BF1. BF3 was the best of the series for me and Hardline is a desaster since the player base diminished very quickly making the online multiplayer non playable. But after BF1 I have decided to wait a year or 2 until BF V goes on sale and I will stay clear from "premium" this time entirely.

The player base for BF1 in SA was so small that most servers are actually empty. you have 1 or 2 64 player servers populated. 90% of the time I can not find a populated BF1 server with maps from the DLC's that was not free. I can not play those maps on overseas servers because I get kicked for ping.

My FPS games going forward are more from smaller studios. Post scriptum looks good. I per-orderd Insurgency sandstorm and played some of the Beta. Thats a really good game and I think it will be keeping me busy for a long time. Rising storm 2 : Vietnam, wow what a good game. WW3 looks pretty good and a lot like BF4. Pitty I can not buy rainbow six siege on Steam though since that would also fill a nice gap for me.

I am giving the COD and BF cash cow franchises a rest now.

People complained about the lack of content in BF 1 at launch, but I haven't seen much mention on this?

So only brit and german weapons at launch.
No details on how often there will be updates.

Since it is a 'live service' they will be focusing more on skins, hats, face paints and other cosmetic crap they can sell than actual real gameplay content.

Most football fans buy FIFA annually. The gameplay does improve (however marginally) year on year and having updated player rosters and kits is pretty important. Anyway, EA is a huge publisher and it's impossible that a bunch more titles aren't on the way.

I can appreciate that Access Premier isn't for everyone, but it's excellent for someone like me who gets R600 value from FIFA each year. There's just about no chance I won't find at least one other AAA EA game I enjoy each year.

Maybe that's a good thing though. I mean, Fortnite and Overwatch make money hand over fist by providing a compelling gameplay experience to all users and getting players invested. So if EA wants some of that action (although I think FIFA Ultimate Team does pretty well already) they need BF V to be really awesome.
 
Fortnite is free...

If EA wants to design the game centered around making money through microtransactions, why must we pay a R1000 entrance fee for a throw together, cosmetically fueled experience?

I only need BF, so it's cheaper.
