Hi V3G etc..

I changed to BB-A to see if my speeds improve, but I have not noticed any difference to the standard

I have an E-220 with firmware upgrade to 7.2 HSDPA

here are my speedtest.net results.

Thanks for the comment.

My point is why pay for BB-Advanced if u can ONLY get 3.6 speeds?

I'm using an E220 modem...what's the max upload speed on this?

I'm on BB-S and peak at around 4.8Mbps to 5.2Mbps. Perhaps its your location?

I can certainly confirm that in my area we do not obtain near 7.2 speeds in spite being on BB - Advanced. I was on BB - Standard and see no difference in speeds.
I am using a E272 device with Poynting ant with gives me a signal strength of -63dBm pointing at Cell ID 61008 operating on APN-internet set to 3G Only with SIM Profile: Downlink 7168.000 Uplink 1408.000, speed test results done on Vodacom Speedtest Site I only obtain DL= 2868 UL = 1165. These speeds on a Sunday Morning @ 10h02

So what is the benefit of BB-A to me? Not Speed but only a flat data rate.

I wonder if there could be a problem on the Vodacom network to obtain this type of speeds for BB-A.
If Vodacom has a BACKHAUL problem in my area please admit it and I and your customers will be completely understanding.
On the other hand if you are caught telling Corporate Lies then we will not be so understanding.

Vg3 - your comments will be welcomed

If you go through my previous posts, you'll notice how often I comment (read: lament) on the restrictions lack of back-haul places on us to deliver best possible speeds.

Your modem can do 7.2, the tower can do 7.2, the test server can do 7.2, so (assuming everything on your PC / software / firmware is OK) it can only be the Telco links limiting getting higher speeds. You'll often see the mobile networks complaining about the massive backorder numbers for telco links. (Thousands and thousands of links outstanding, awaiting installation).

And it's going to get ever worse, relatively speaking. The radio network is ready to do obscene speeds and I've already tested in on our network. (Suffice to say 7.2 is pretty pedestrian to the speeds I've see, using real-world kit. ;))

So, (for now) BB-A should NOT be seen as a higher speed offering. Rather it's all about a flat-rate and no speed profile. So you'll get whatever speed is available. In other words, in areas where there is adequate back-haul in place, you won't be limited to 3.6 as on BB-S.

BB-S: Normal IB/OOB rates and limited to a max of 3.6 on the radio network.
BB-A: Flat rates (no OOB) and no (Vodacom imposed) limit.

But in both cases the lowest of the radio or back-haul throughput will be your actual speed.

Where are you based?

Thanks V3G for clarifying this....i just thought there may have been a problem with my modem.

P.S Will the type of APN used make a speed difference ....I use "unrestricted" because I have an IP Camera....will using "internet" make a difference?

No, the apn's are run along the same routes, so will give the same performance.
