BBM for Android, iPhone arrives

In general, I posted my experience for BBM here. For me it is not worth it, but I might be missing something

Small correction - it also works on tablets with no 3G. I installed it on my Nexus 7 (wi-fi only) and used it. The draw-back of this is that you can not have WhapsApp active on both your phone and tablet linked to the same sim card. I e-mailed the people at WhapsApp and they might re-introduce the feature in the future where you can link more than one device to the same sim card, but no promises.

Can you not copy the install file from your handset to the iPad and install it?

You don't need a sim slot to get WhatsApp to work on a wi-fi only device. Done this less than two weeks ago on the Nexus 7 (wi-fi only)
Serious question, were you able to get it working without a workaround? I couldn't get it woeking on any of the 3 tablets without fooling it into thinking the device has a cellular module.

This is what I did:
1. Install WhatsApp 2.11.86
2. Ignore warnings (if you get any)
3. Agree and continue
4. Press OK (tablets not supported)
5. Choose country and enter cell number. Press OK
6. OK to verification message
After that you should be good to go. You can switch between devices, but that might cause you to be blocked from WhatsApp's side.

True. When speaking to them, they did confirm that they don't support tablets, but it does work on the tablets if you can get the app on there. You must be thrilled that BBM works for you on the tablet :eversoslightlysarcastic: :D If WhatsApp really wants to compete, they have to get their support active for tablets.

It's handy but neither whatapp or bbm can replace iMessage yet. Being able to respond to, or send, a message via the nearest phone, tablet, or computer is the ideal solution for me.

Hope the next update allows you to forward images between contacts instead of having to retake them.

Myself and a few mates uninstalled it this AM. Quite a few of us hooked up, and we stuck to whatsapp.

I came. I saw. I lost interest.

But only to other Apple users surely?

True but I was simply using iMessage as an example of the way other IM applications could also do things. Why limit to phones (whatsapp) or just to mobile devices (bbm) when you could open it up to computers as well?

My general usage is Skype, GTalk and Whatsapp.
If it were not for clients having a preference to Skype, it would be just GTalk and Whatsapp.

Just received an email from BlackBerry that the a queues are over, and people can register immediately now. People now getting back onto bbm groups that they had abandoned earlier when switching phones
