And there you have it:

BlackBerry pauses BBM rollout for Android and iOS following leak

We hope you weren't scheduling your weekend around the launch of BBM for Android and iOS, as BlackBerry has paused the rollout following a leak of the Android version. There were too many simultaneous users, the company says; with over 1.1 million active clients in the first eight hours, the messaging service just wasn't ready to handle the load. There's no mention of when the BBM deployment will continue, although BlackBerry is disabling the unofficial Android build to prevent future problems. Unless you grabbed BBM's iOS version in the first several hours, you'll just have to be patient.

The fact that they paused the iOS rollout as well just proves to me its server load issues.

Agreed.

This whole BBM app issue is RIM's final bow-out from the mobile industry.

As with their previous products, services, launches, problems - this is also a huge cockup and they just confirmed the exact reason why the company was ran into the ground...

Seeing that the final stages of RIM's buyout is in play, I now wonder how many interested buyers will now change their minds....

RIM cancelled the rollout of both iOS and Android apps.

Only those who downloaded the NZ iOS app yesterday will still be able to use it.

Because Android was supposed to "have it first" but because they ****ed up now it's ruined for everyone.

Oh I was trying to change from the SA store to the NZ.

Got it now by creating a new account.

I changed from SA store to NZ , payment details, I selected non :) , downloaded BBM , and then switched back to SA :)

Worked for me :)

No, because their servers were unable to handle the additional users. I think, even without the Android App, they will still have cancelled the rollout based on iOS users alone had they gone further...

Impatient children messing it up for everyone else.

I still tend to disagree.

The app iOS app was also launched, and cancelled, in India. I think between the few countries the iOS app were released also contributed to major strain on RIM's servers.

I think they are using the Android app as an excuse - a poor one at that.

Why did they cancel the iOS if it was working?
