Android users will have to wait a bit longer for BBM

Engadget is quoting a Blackberry source as saying their system could not handle the 1.1mil leaked Android versions running. WTF? If they had rolled out on time then the leak would never have reached such numbers. Secondly, how are their systems going to cope once the full rollout is completed?

Doubt volumes were the problem. More likely something in the leaked version (Why was/who was leaked it?) that causes havoc on the network, whether that be deliberately (added code?) or unintentional (bug BlackBerrry fixed, and did not want in the wild?)

The big question is WHY? Why would any Android user even want to install BBM in the first place?

To communicate with the die hard BBM fans who don't want to use something else ... *sigh*

Do not agree with you on this.

The reason being that RIM already went public giving a launch date for both the iOS and Android versions of the App. They planned a gradual layout during the course of the day around the world for the two apps.

Taking this into account, one would expect that they have completed the app and already tested it. You will obviously not announce a release date if your app has not been completed and tested.

Unfortunately, earlier in the week, the app has been leaked by someone and was distributed on the Internet. Users started downloading and installing it. Since it was released, and over the next 5 days about 1.1 million users installed it. This caused their systems not to be able to handle the load. Whether it was a bug in the app that contributed, it is irrelevant - it could have been fixed and the official app launched and users could have used it without problems.

I tend to agree and go with the information that their servers were not able to handle the load. Besides, with a working iOS app, why did they stop the rollout of that as well? Clearly server load issues.

The NSA code was still missing in the leaked version.

RIM would lose their Federal funding if it was not included.

Or so I hear.... ;-)

Funny... and more likely than the inability to handle an additioal million users, sadly.

I switched to NZ downloaded bbm and switched back to SA

I like it hey , I don't like having to give my phone number out to people to communicate via whatsapp,

How do you change the store?

- Head over to your App Store and scroll down the bottom of the page where your Apple ID can be accessed. It's on the bottom left of your App Store. Click on Apple ID and choose View Apple ID.

- Choose Country/Region and the select New Zealand as your country. After you clicking Next you will need to fill in your personal information.

- First of all make sure you choose None in the Credit Card window, as your credit card will not work in New Zealand.

Can't we rather work on converting the existing BBM uses over to WhatsApp? What's the appeal of supporting ANOTHER message system? We already have Facebook, Hang Outs, SMS, WhatsApp, WeChat to name a few.

Both iOS and Android has been halted till they can upgrade their servers. Don't expect it till end of the month, or in true RIM fashion, next year if ever.

Well, by then the company would already be split up and sold. Units that were not sold will be closed down. So, if BBM will still exist by then it might under another company and will probably not be free anymore.
