Main Power: Solar
1st Back up: Eskom (when sunshine is imsufficient)
2nd Back Up: Days when sun dont shine and when Eskom is down:

Your friends are morons. Electricity is not going to get any cheaper. That alone is ROI right there, even if loadshedding wasn't a thing.

I use about 400kWh a month, maybe a little more... even I'm looking at solar now at that small usage. In 10 years it pays for itself if I'm not buying from Eskom any longer.

Only issue I have is that solar isn't going to fix the massive amount of other issues resulting from no electricity. No pumping stations for fresh water, no sewerage treatment for the water from the toilet. No food on the shelves. Addressing those issues is a lot more complicated.

Various ways to finance a solar system, there's no excuse anymore. Those still fighting against it turn to ROI spreadsheets as a last resort...
