Pinky is a seriously switched on individual. I have spoken to ex-Telkomers that worked with her and they really rate her.
As Ben says she should have gotten the job 5 years ago.

Will she
a) Have the support to take on the unions SO SHE
b) Can make the changes


Can she motivate her management to do what needs to be done?

I don't actually know why they even advertise if they can't give you the product you want to buy from them. Try getting a new phone line anywhere in a large metropolitan city of this country and you will wait for months. Why do they have advertisements on street poles then telling how you should get a home phone from them?! First get your infrastructure in place and THEN advertise that people can now buy what you are trying to sell.

Anyways.. I do hope that you guys are right that she will be able to shake things up, but old big dinosaurs don't change course too easily.

Actually, if you read up a bit more about Pinky, you'd find that she's quite capable of that and much more.

Bloody sad to say, but Telkom might just actually need someone like ACK Senior, to turn the tide.
In the same breath, government will need to pull out of Telkom.
If those two things happen - I may just go and have ADSL installed again.

LLU, FTTH - that is all!

The best fix? Liquidate Telkom and let the competition buy up all their assets for real cheap. It'll save the market 20 years of making Telkom bankrupt from gradual irrelevance.
 
Unfortunately all the tips (with possible exception of #1) seem to be treating symptoms, so I don't see much good happening in future.

Really? I have also spoken to People who have worked with Pinky and they had exactly the Opposite to say. That she is the kind of Person that just keeps saying "Leave it for tomorrow?" And then nothing gets done ever?

So the new CEO's not interested in challenging or re-defining (or even just defining :whistle:) the strategy, choosing instead to focus on execution of a possibly fatally flawed strategy?

Maybe the tips should include "look for the obvious problems in the current plan" & "maybe set your targets closer than 1 decade apart".

She's got one hell of a job ahead of her is all I can say.

I think you have to find out what the customer wants, and then give them that.

I want a decent speed broadband service at a good price. Currently I use 384 because I'll be damned if I'm going to pay ludicrous rates for anything faster.

Look at the broadband options for ADSL customers, ffs.
384 kb/s - slow
512 kb/s - hardly any faster than 384 at twice the price.
and then nothing until
4 Mb/s, which I'm sure is nice but way too expensive. Why is there nothing in between? Like 1Mb/s or 2Mb/s?

You could squeeze a lot more out of me, if you gave me a value proposition.

I also think they need to cut down on the products they offer. God only knows what's going on on their website. I'm sure not even they know what's going on.
Simplify. Offer a few great value products that people understand.
