Best Android applications

Nah mailed copilot when I saw that myself and promptly recieved a reply saying they're "Not ready for release". Checking now it looks like they removed any mention of SA maps: http://www.alk.com/copilot/v8-maps.asp

Google maps doesn't support navigation anywhere other than USA though right? Also a bit iffy with it not storing the maps and costing a fortune to use each time.....

works fine for me.

what version of google maps do u have?

I think Basjohn is referring to voice guided navigation. Google maps on the Hero is better than nothing, but it's difficult to use while driving since you have to keep looking at the phone to figure out your next turn.

Ah yeah sorry if I didn't make that clear.

And aye, I figure my chances of having an accident move up quite exponentially the more I have to peer at the phone to see what to do. Looking for a full fledged real navigation package here.

gStrings for musicians that need a chromatic tuner. Excellent app!

Use the android market app on your phone. Sometimes the program can be downloaded from the publishes website, but most times they'll just link you to an address within the market. At the moment we only have access to free apps, so all it will cost is the data to download them. All of the programs mentioned in this thread should be in the market.

Thanks, but when I click on Market on my phone, nothing happens. It opens a new screen, but it's just blank/white. It stays like that forever until I exit.

I don't have Android so I haven't tested this myself but maybe you guys may find it useful: http://gesturesearch.googlelabs.com/

Do you find it hard to find a contact or locate an application from a list of hundreds of items on an Android phone? Or do you find it stressful to search for an item by typing in its title while on the go?

Gesture Search from Google Labs lets you search your Android-powered device by drawing alphabet gestures on the touch screen. It allows you to quickly find a contact, a bookmark, an application, or a music track from hundreds or thousands of items, all in one place. It is fast and fun to use.

Gesture Search currently recognizes the English alphabet and requires Android 1.6 or above.

I find it quite annoying that every single app starts up on my HTC Magic (when I start the phone). I found a startup manager, but it will only work if I root it. Really sucks. Any other solutions?
