My mother needs a new Android phone, needs a good fingerprint reader and a decent camera would be nice other than that she's currently happy with a Samsung S4 which is on its last legs so just about anything half decent will work just fine. The cheaper the better but I don't want to get absolute trash.
Only caveat is it needs to have an under 6" screen or smaller if its not a phone with an ultra skinny bezel.

Hit me with your recommendations!

Better grab the below while stock is available.. at 3k, it doesn't get better than this..

Thanks guys, that is awesome value, the only thing is the size, I have a feeling that's going to be a bit too big for her. Especially coming from a dainty S4. I'll ask her now but I doubt she'll want that, it also weighs a ton, almost 200g.

I'll edit the op to include that it needs to be under 6" screen or smaller if its not a phone with an ultra skinny bezel.

Not sure about Google Play services on this or camera

6.5", not 6, but ticks the rest of your boxes

I was looking at the cheap Samsung and Xiaomi phones now, they all seem to have monster screens and weigh ton, even the dirt cheap ones.

Not sure about Google Play services on this or camera
That would probably work quite well, size is spot on but she would need Google Play services.

The phone has this option, in the screenshot I've taken.

I've had the phone since late last week & so far very happy with it, including the weight which isn't excessive, even when holding it one handed. Screenshot_2021-10-14-19-28-51-640_com.android.settings.jpg

Unless you want to surprise her with a new phone, why don't you take her around to a few stores and look at some phones. Maybe she won't have trouble handling a 6.5" phone. She might also enjoy the bigger screen size.

She stays quite far away, I told her to do just that but she seems resigned to getting the 9T. She'll be fine but I'll probably have to endure a regular moan though

It's definitely not terrible, it's pretty much the same same size and weight as a Samsung Note 4 but it's also not small.

I'm on a S10e, it's a bit smaller than the S10 and it's nice having a more compact phone, especially in these times of skinny bezels so still a decent sized screen.

A Huawei P30 Lite would actually be perfect size wise and specs but they still sell for close to R5k which is too much.

As others have said, a Xiaomi device is the way to go. But the Nokia 2.4. and 3.4 are within that price range. The 5.4 is slightly outside your budget.

Xiaomi 9T 128GB
Ive had mine since June and love it
Best budget Android phone Ive ever had
Nice and fast, zero lag, zero issues

Thanks for all the advise people!
She went with the Xiaomi 9T, her friend had a similar size phone that she tried and she didn't think the size was too bad.

It's a winner phone for the Incredible R2999 special.
