As the title says whats the best android phone under R3000 and where do I get it. It's for my dad i'm bringing him over to the dark side he just need to check his email & google talk for now. I have no problem with importing if I have to but prefer to save myself the schlep.

Unfortunately this is South Africa, so with our rip-off pricing, you'll hardly find an Adroid phone worth using as your main phone for under R3000. There are okish phones, but none that I would give to your dad as his introduction to Android.

Your best bet is to try and get a Nexus phone, but it's gonna be more than R3000.

If you have a buddy in the UK, this is the best phone deal available on planet earth :

While we're on this topic what is the best Chinese Android phone I can buy for that price? Available in SA?

You can check around for the Huawei Honor at Vodacom but for R2999 excl vat you can get the Galaxy S3 mini from Esquire with official local support from Samsung.

The Sansui phone would be the next best bet.

Galaxy S3 mini ftw. I know a few people who have it and it's excellent value for money. Screen is as gorgeous as the S2 and it performs nicely.

Have a look at the "Xtreamer AiKi Cellphone White".

Vegeta, I can tell you now that your dad will love the S3 mini.

The 4'' form factor will be perfect, the display is very good and it's a very capable phone + it's running Android Jelly Bean out of the box. Not a lot of midrange/low end Android phones that will get Jelly Bean.
