I'm looking for backup software for our file server.
Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Guys, how exactly does a backup program work?

I just normally copy each folder/file I need...

Shedding some light would be appreciated. :)

I use Acronis True Image to backup my C:\ drive after Windows has been fully updated, latest drivers installed, etc. I can mount the single backup file as a virtual drive in read/write mode to change some files as needed after the backup.

When Windows goes belly-up I just boot off the CD and restore the backup (usually over a network, True Image has some nice network support). Then it's not necessary to download all the updates for Windows again. I can't remember the last time I reinstalled Windows from scratch on my main PC :D

When you have file servers to back up, then it not only becomes a task, but it's a completely different story as well.

You run the software, setup a backup task, which includes, files/folders you want to backup, a schedule to run automatically, on a daily or weekly basis, and a destination drive to backup the stuff up. Once that's done, then you let it run. Easy peezy. :)

Finding good backup software has become a task for me... :(:o

i use this batch file , scheduled within windows scheduler

if exist backup_filename.tib rename backup_filename.tib "%date:/=.%.tib"

so that whenever i set a rename date - it should use a date stamp as filename..however...i've seen that this doesn't like a network environment (the renaming process).

is there an easier way ?

i'm letting my customers do backups 3 times a week to a server.
