Best knife sharpener

Put my knives through the Minosharp as is my routine - can confirm remain unimpressed (despite this being the sharpener recommended by Global). I am hoping for a favourable review of the Global knives using Lansky or Warthog to sharpen..

I mean the brand isn’t really going to make a difference.

The Minosharp appears to be a honing tool more than a sharpener and in line with something like a steel/ceramic that keeps an already sharp blade that way.

If it’s already dull edged it’s not going to do much to get it back to sharp.

If you get one of these get the Ken Onion edition.
I see the Ken Onion edition has a separate blade grinder attachment: bought separately

"Made from the highest quality materials, this blade grinder attachment quickly installs to its base so that you can sharpen your household knives with ease. Simple to operate, sharpen the knives in your house, quickly with this very sharp working edge."

I'm a bit confused. As I thought the Ken Onion is a one stop solution as it states:

"VARIABLE SPEED MOTOR - handle every sharpening task, from grinding to honing. More power with improved cooling & the option of slow speed honing or high speed grinding. The variable speed control (1, 200 SFM to 2, 800 SFM) provides you with the optimal belt speed for the task at hand"

Just be aware that the work sharp items from Amazon US are different power requirements and will thus not be recommended to use in SA.

Will have to be EU versions.

Sadly US ones quite cheap. EU ones almost same price as SA.

Sorry for any possible thread derail, but has anyone bought those knives from Spar that are part of the latest sticker rewards program? They look decent...

I looked at one and they seem decent, I couldn’t say what quality/hardness the metal is, that’s really what determines the quality of a knife and how long it can hold an edge for.

Those Masterchef knives ? Didn't know the promo is on ? Bought a couple when we had the promo here in NW. All of them are nice.

I think the promo itself is over (so they're not handing out stickers anymore) but as far as I know, they're still selling them (while stock lasts).

Let us know how it goes, high quality and consistent free hand sharpening is quite a skill.

Unless you need to significantly re-edge a blade the Warthog is the way to go, it just works and really well.
Probably got it mostly because the process looks cool and I like the hands-on approach with things I use a lot. Might be overkill though. Will let you know if it passes the paper test.

They all seem to be x30cr13 which is perfectly fine.

I'm glad I bought it. I like the feel of moving the blade over the stone - very satisfying process and a super sharp blade now.
