best possible laptop for 10k?

Alternative to the Y580 is the (newer) Y500A. The GT650 GDDR5 performs almost as well as the GTX660 and, with a slight overclock, it apparently performs just as well (and sometimes better). You get the benefit of ultrabay in the Y500A, as well as RED backlit keyboard and more aggressive styling...

I have a Y500A and I'm thoroughly impressed. Running Battlefield 3, Borderlands 2 and Guild Wars 2 all on highest settings with nary a hickup.

The problem with the Y500A, is that it does not support Nvidia Optimus, which means that the internal graphics card on the CPU cannot be used to save you some battery when you're not gaming. You're stuck in High Performance mode all the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong though - Would like to be in this case, as since my FHD Y580, I am a big Lenovo fan :D

Haven't really checked for this, but battery life seems decent enough for work - around 3.5 to 4 hours...

Minor issues are no optimus - checked with lenovo - but battery is still okay 3.5-4hrs (probably have got 4-5 with optimus)
SA version is not full HD (would have to import it)

no mSSD (there is space to put one though, as top range ones overseas have it)

You mean the ultrabay graphics card - dual GT650m in SLI?

Probably have to import it, but can check with Lenovo SA.

Cost - not sure, says $230. Worth it - not sure... SLI supposedly gives you GT675m performance, but the v-sync needs to be activated, and seen some issues of games not supporting it, or just issues with it (tearing etc).
 
A good (future proofed) new laptop is minimum R6000 anyway
but yeah, i suppose if you want the luxury of gaming on a laptop, you need to be rich with some spare time anyway :)

Core i3 with a GT630 is only R4700.
While the GT630 is no powerhouse, its the same as a GT540 which is more than enough to play Skyrim on High at native resolutions.
 
I got a GT640m in my laptop, its boss.

Guild wars 2 on high natrive res (1333x768). Far cry 2 on high. CS:GO on medium-> High all with awesome frames rates of 45-50 +

Didn't attempt to go higher, just left it at what it was and it ran very lekker.

so ya, anything above a GT640M you can play most games very nicely.

Pretty much everything I've stated in the posts before yours... I have a Y500A and it really is a very powerful machine.
 
hey guys so i finally have the money to order the thing today, and i just wanted to make sure that during the delay, no new laptop revelations happened that you are aware of? nothing better came out for 10k? is the y500 still the best il be able to get with my budget? thanks guys enjoy the weekend
