Best streaming box

No one will force a change in the short term - but it's just weird that although a new technology exists and recommended, someone would choose and go out of their way to get the old technology and throw a tantrum when someone tells him it's old. I mean that's like buying a Full HD TV & DVD player in 2022 because, well, I can .

Then pop to buy a USB2.0 HDD and choose to ignore the USB3.0 on the shelf next to it, while connecting to your Android TV 7.0 box streaming MP3s
I bought mine before the AV1 hype.
I don't want to be rude, but the rest of your post is unjustified bull drivel...

How so ?

I don't mean to be rude either - but to dumb it down for you, why choose to buy old technology if the new technology is available at the same price ?

Um.

What?
Are you drunk?
Did you forget to press submit?

Edit : I'm not talking about you personally. I'm asking why would a person choose to buy old technology if they have a choice

I wasn't talking about you.

Follow the thread and don't pop a vessel

So what options do we have in SA with regards to an AV1 streaming box? Please share with all of us in here @Dolby .

Wow, you're pretty arrogant . But today officially you can get the Xiaomi Mi Stick 4K.

Considering Google are pushing AV1 hard and stipulated new boxes need to feature, you'll notice mor and more popping up locally. Geewiz also have options, albeit grey . I just find it weird to choose not to buy a device with the new feature when it's sitting on the shelf next to you ...

Maybe I misread the 'Please share with all of us now' as snide and sarcastic comment. Sorry if I did.

But anyway, only 1 AV1 dongle available locally as of now. You'll see a more models released towards the end of 2022.

I wouldn't be surprised if the models you see now (Mi, Maverick, SmartVu, Ematic, Skyworth etc) are phased out by 2023, with the focus being on 4th generation S905X/Y models

I'm hoping for a new Shield and Apple TV as well, that allow not only AV1, but a better HDR implementation.

I use this (sometimes) https://www.geewiz.co.za/media-play...treaming-stick-with-voice-control-remote.html with Android TV 11 / Google TV / AV1 and under R1,000.

Most the time, however, I still use my 2019 Samsung Smart as it's super convenientl and believe it or not, still snappy.

I've got the apps I need (Netflix, YouTube, Apple TV, Plex, Spotify, Tidal and Plex) ; and everything runs UHD HDR if needed. Netflix does Dolby Atmos pass through if needed as well.

I still can't decide, i like the av1 on the mi stick, but the usb c on the chromcast might became useful

right now i have the mi box, so sometimes i would use a memory stick but not too often to be honest.

Precisely.

Not something I would compromise other features on to have, use case will likely become non-existent in time.

Out of interest...do you ever download content?

I stream the vast majority of my content but must admit to sailing the high seas a few times a month as well. Especially for the content that's not readily available locally. And yes then the usb port on my streaming box obviously gets used. Without one...just creates too many alternative options , all of them being a pain in the ass.

I sail the high seas a moerse lot so a USB port is a must. Each to their own.

Not remotely interested in any debate.

DL all your gigs of crap & copy it over on a flash & stick said flash into box.

Some may see it as "archaic" but I don't buy that. It's foolproof & works 100% of the time.
