Best streaming box

by the way....how's the Realme 4K Smart Google?
I recently got a realme phone, and it's awesome
ok maybe not that great....
the Chromecast with Google TV 4K HDR also seems good....does it support av1?

If I was buying now, I would get a Xiaomi 4k Streaming Stick, or a Fire TV 4k stick max, if I did not need Google certification. Realme 4K stick may also be an option. Simply as these are a bit faster, should get a few good round of updates and have AV1 support.

Think DStv doesn't work with it, then there's no casting support and Kodi you need to sideload. Just a pity since it's really powerful.

I enjoy mine, have no need for DSTV support, only casting I have done is to test that it works. Miracast works if you need to cast, don't use Kodi. Sideloading is easy enough.

No it does not support AV1. The rumoured replacement Chromecast should.

Plot twist: for my office room I'll probably get one of these to just do basic streaming while I work

or the Mi.
I've had one of those for about 6 months or more. It's really a nice box. Much more responsive than the old Lit and Mi boxes.

The big advantage of this box over any of the TV sticks is the included USB and LAN ports.

Only disadvantage is it does not support AV1 codec, which Google is pushing hard, and Netflix is also starting to push out with new content.

Will probably become the default streaming codec within the next 18 months or so, for these and other services.

At that time I'll buy a new one or can people only spend 1k once in their lifetimes? I don't get this obsession, it is 1k zar, that is it. Buy a new tool if it is too old. Why buy anything in life if it is going to be old soon.

Well if the stick/box has AV1 he probably won't need ethernet and for USB he can just buy an usb splitter.

Some people don't have the money to buy a new whatever every six months or so, but each to their own.

I can see how many customers these streaming services would lose if they tried to force millions of people to replace their TVs and/or streaming boxes to fit their agenda...

No one will force a change in the short term - but it's just weird that although a new technology exists and recommended, someone would choose and go out of their way to get the old technology and throw a tantrum when someone tells him it's old. I mean that's like buying a Full HD TV & DVD player in 2022 because, well, I can .

Then pop to buy a USB2.0 HDD and choose to ignore the USB3.0 on the shelf next to it, while connecting to your Android TV 7.0 box streaming MP3s

* Not that any of this is wrong, but when the UHD / Blu Ray / USB3.0 / Android TV 12 / FLAC devices are available, maybe best to take something a bit newer
