Best streaming box

I said the thinking was the same - in other words, I don't have the feature ... so it's not important yet

I agree - but even that, I feel needs a small update .

I'm not 100% on the current status, but at one point didn't do YouTube UHD, then battled with 60fps - and I understand the SDR/HDR process si not fully automatic as yet ? You manually flip it ? AV1 would be a bonus as well

But, it's close ...

Likely to see some update come WWDC in June/July.

I don’t have one (yet) so can’t comment on the SDR/HDR process thing but it seems a bit silly to do that anyway when it can auto switch.

Mine is just set to Dolby Vision permanently and it’s no problem, but many people have this weird thing about setting it to SDR for some reason and letting it switch for all content.

It does sound silly.

I'm not sure how correct it is, but I heard that if you want HDR, you need to set HDR - and then it upscales all SDR content to HDR. So it's either on or off

What is the update going to change though ?
What's 60fps issue I've read of ?

You do realise that he and that other egghead has been banned from every iPhone thread, so they have to take on there inferiority complex somewhere else.

I don't even go to the iPhone forums
@Spizz has also never (ever) corrected me because, well, he can't really

Maybe you have me confused .

And then when I do, it's really just a question or a state the facts . As I've always said the issue comes in that most people HATE the facts and that's what causes huge arguments .

Well they can easily bring AV1 and anything else in with the updates as it will see a major tvOS revision.

Not sure about the 60fps, but historically this isn’t an Apple problem but a Google one.

Other apps do 60fps no problem, it’s not a device limitation. Same with HDR.

AV1 - to my understanding - is a hardware decoding .

It can't be done via an update

I think the 60fps is 'corrected' on the latest version of the 4K - but as far I know, the earlier 4K couldn't do it either .

I can only assume to never read my post where I spelled it out.

Oh, I think you do that all yourself ;)

Yet when I stated the facts, you ignored them and replied with tactically snipped posts

Mine does 60fps on other apps.

Again just because Google couldn’t be bothered to make it happen doesn’t mean it’s a hardware issue.

AV1 is software, VLC and all the browser etc simply added support for it.

Apple joined the Alliance for Open Media and is even a founding member as I recall so it’s definitely coming.

You seriously have me confused - this gives it away :
I suppose if you are disingenuous enough to cut my posts and only reply to the bits that you like, then it’s bound to happen.

I genuinely want to know the post you're talking about ?
I ask with tears in my eyes - where is the post ?

They keep talking about AV1 hardware encoding - unless it's both ?

As far as AV1 support on Android TV today, it’s already starting to expand. This codec requires newer hardware for the decoding process, which is why products that lack support, including Chromecast with Google TV, can’t simply get a software update to bring it. Notably, Sony’s new Bravia XR lineup, which runs Google TV supports AV1 decoding, as does the latest Amlogic S905X4 chip that’s being used in more streaming boxes.

Wow you guys certainly pick really odd, insignificant hills to die on.
It's crazy - The fact that I mentioned the Shield can't do YouTube HDR exploded into a 3 page debate about 'who cares' , 'show me why it's useful' and 'you're the only one that wants it'

You said iPhone users compromise and didn't believe HDV didn't watch much YouTube because he doesn't have HDR. Just so patronising it's ridiculous. So I stepped in to say that I have an iPhone and YouTube in HDR , but I don't use it. This blows your silly little argument out of the water. Clearly.

You’re welcome.

And you replied on all of those three explosions. If it didn't matter then perhaps /who cares? But internets 101.

In any case it is just a tool for me, costed 3200, does its current job but is replaceable and I can afford any other box or 10 of them.
