Best value laptop under 8K

I'm looking at buying my mom a new laptop.
I'd like to get her an Air but I'd still like to research other options a bit more before making the decision.
All she really needs it for is browsing/skyping/FaceBooking etc.

Not really phased about make.
And re specs, something pretty basic really.. But not something that will be obsolete in a week, I realize tech dates pretty fast, but just want best bang for my buck.
There are so many choices, don't know where to start.
With Apple its simple, not too much choice... But i still want to compare.

Buy the Dell I5 with 512 Meg dedicated graphics card and 4 gig ram for 5299 + VAT, Warrantee will be at least 2 1/2 years, machine is sold as demo, but it is brand new still in original wrapping....

What form factor would she appreciate most? Since you say you wanted to get her an air I guess you want something small. There's a AMD Zacte E-350 Sony that's incredibly good value. I'll try to find it.
