In my experience the uncapped services that I tried sucks.. the lure of downloading anything you want is to much and when I look again I'm at 100 gigs.. I still need to try mweb though...

I think a better solution would be to have pure uncapped.. like a 384kbs or 512kbs connection that is truly uncapped.. always working and at an affordable price.. is there something like that?

MWEB is cheap but it's uptime is something to worry about - I wouldn't use it for a business unless you know how to change over when MWEB has problems - for most businesses, go with a capped account from someone OTHER than MWEB.

Hi i'm new, what's this truly uncapped

Or should I say not in this country anyway.

To be honest I am on Mweb 1mb uncapped and though they do have faults I am quite happy with the service I get. I have pasted my usage below and you can see there are days the line runs like &*%#, but ja, it is what it is.

Look at the various unshaped uncapped packages by openweb, Mweb etc

Hi i'm new, what's this truly uncapped

It’s an ADSL account that performs like a capped account but it’s unmetered and thats not Mweb "uncapped"
WA capped I get full line speed on demand doesn't matter what time of the day.
Mweb uncapped Im lucky to get 200kbps on p2p at 8pm.

My advice it to try out one of openweb gold products over Vodacom backbone, its awesome to say the least and i dont know many ISP where the CEO/Owner himself helps deal with queries aside from Openweb.

Not bad for a 1mb account.. I can surely slow-down on the downloads.. but my main gripe is that during the day it's useless.. doing simple things like uploading a 10mb file with FTP is not possible. Browsing is slooww and irritating.. Mweb like that during the day on the uncapped accounts?

Go with Openweb Gold but not Vodacom backbone if you want to use torrents.

I assume the "a" is a "is"... yes I agree but have you seen their pricing? :wtf: you may as well get a leased line or use Afihost at R9.50 per gig or whatever it is.
Mweb Business 10mbps uncapped data only, costs R5k per month - is only worth while if you constantly do more than 526gigs per month.

So you want the Unshaped ( p2p,more sustained speeds, lower contention ) features at the home account price? Alrighty then

General web browsing is fine during the day, coming from a 384 line its amazing to be able to watch videos online without any buffering.
TBH if you one of the type of people who sit and do a speedtest every 5 seconds then this is not the package for you.

Well 4mb unshaped uncapped is R2000, and that's basically what you're looking for. Otherwise try out OpenWeb Gold, it's going to be close enough in terms of speed that you probably wouldn't want to spend the extra R1200 or so on unshaped.

Maybe business 384k ... or 512k .. unshaped, unp2p'ed, un-buggered, etc.. where can I get something like that?

I'll try mweb next month.. After 9am untill 4pm I literrally cannot check emails, cannot browse.. It's 100% dead. pings return 100% packet loss.. I think they have this 10 day rolling window thing where if you download to much you get problems.. this is on the IS backbone..

Most ISPs have their unshaped uncapped accounts, 384 is usually R500, 512kb R700 and 4mb R2k. But 4mb shaped will perform better than 384kb unshaped just about at all times and will outperform it by far most of the time.

What would the difference be with a 384K line vs 4Mb line but on a 384K package? I remember someone telling me a while back that even though its a 384K package, it would perform better on the 4Mb line ( in terms of speed). Is this true?
