They've been there longer than 10 years. For the Cape Town ones at leastI actually saw a few on the N1 on the way to Polokwane, they seem quite old and are still there.

Definitely not, you would have to shoot him while he throws the rock on your car while driving. Good luck doing that.
You’re welcome to try though.
What if you shot the now unarmed fscker as he's approaching afterwards to plunder? I mean, he has just tried to kill you with a rock and now he's coming at you?
Or take this situation for example. http://newspage.co.za/watch-racial-attack-shop-owner-stabbed/
What if the shop manager pulled out a gun and ventilated this savage after having been stabbed in the back twice? Does shock factor/fight-flight count for nothing?

If the guy was unarmed.. no you can't. Must be armed to pose a valid threat in the eyes of the law as far as I know.
Does not have to be your car, if they were throwing a rock at you (f2wohf) and someone else shot them to protect you.
I’m taking the N2 in exactly 10min. If you don’t hear of me anymore, you know what happened.
No, Olifantsfontein is just the other side of Midrand when you are travelling from Johannesburg to Pretoria on the N1.
There have been reports of rocks dropping on cars from there. Last night, I think.
So it's countrywide : Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, who knows where else ?
Then it’s not self defense by definition (self).

Someone put these thugs out of their misery.
So you're saying you can't defend the life of another person or are you just harping on the 'self defence' phrase?
This is serious, shouldn't the military be involved ?
Just heard 3 shots being fired in quick succession.
