Big issues with Telkom roaming

Thankfully my Telkom contract only has a couple of months to run then I can go away. They obviously don't like happy customers with money.

For almost 2 months now I have been billed for OOB data, yet I have more than enough data available. Called and had on-line chats with Telkom, no success. Crazy that I must pay when I have data.
You must file a formal complaint with Icasa consumer division. State your full case to them and let them deal with it. Follow up after 2 weeks for feedback.

Noticed this a few days ago and immediately knew it was due to the new transparent roaming agreement.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that someone made higher ups aware of the fact that off-network data would be used while roaming on Vodacom's towers, yet the very same higher ups pushed forward with the switch over since they couldn't give a toss about subscribers. And here we are today.

It must be noted Sipho Maseko the CEO sold alot of Telkom shares at a very high price.

So if people leave and the figures are down then he will purchase those shares again for much less whilst also taking a huge profit.
MTN paid out almost R10 Billion rand to settle issues , which was mostly self inflicted. Go Figure ......

So there seems to be no way to force your phone to use only telkom data. If your phone chooses to roam, you need to buy the much more expensive roaming data.
Manually selecting the telkom network doesn't always keep you on the telkom network even if it is available, it simply forces you to use much more expensive data and you have no choice in the matter, but to leave telkom for another network.

Think I'll cancel my two multi-sims for my dual sim phone and iPad (that uses my Telkom LTE data) as I'm gatvol of these SMSes that my "data is paused". Now that FNB will give me free 500 MB/100 min/ 100 sms on each of my three sims from the 16th, I don't need it. In fact I'm ordering another right now. :D

Edit: ordering two, costs nothing (incl free delivery). ;)

you only get it on 1 sim free...

How do they decide?

Anyway, it's free incl delivery so no harm done if it doesn't work out.

6.9 Customers with multiple FNB Connect SIM card accounts on their profile will be prioritised as
follows;
6.10 Priority 1 – A FNB Connect SIM card account that is registered for inContact.
6.11 Priority 2 – A FNB Connect SIM card account that is registered for Cellphone Banking.
6.12 Priority 3 – A FNB Connect SIM card account, that has spent the most during that month.
6.13 Should there be any contention, Priority 3 will apply.

Thanks, where did you get that? I'll cancel my order. It's obvious from the above which sim will get it. Can still transfer data, so that's nice.

I'll repost that in the right thread if you don't mind.

So... Anyone got a solution yet.

Being charged for All-Net and Telkom-Only data is definitely not okay... I'm not sure this is quite getting the coverage it should be?

We heard from a fellow vendor that many SIMs need to be manually connected VodacomSA directly before they will automatically connect to Telkom-R... We tried it but it didn't work for us... Could connect to VodacomSA, but still acting like no data.

@mybb? Any chance of a follow up with Telkom?

Telkom added a voice note when calling 180. Please note we have changed our roaming partner from MTN to Vodacom. Please change your network selection to Auto for the best coverage.

2G devices needs to manually select TelkomSA -R and then select automatic to be able to seamless handover between Telkom and Vodacom towers.

They should us the option of choosing to only use the telkom network. I used to have very good telkom reception, now all of a sudden I'm almost permanently on Vodacom. I should be able to choose at least.

I have been having issues with Telkom Mobile for a month now. Not only data but Voice calls also donot connect. Data purchased on Telkom Mo Nice does not work at all.

Dear Telkom the plan by Vodacom is to give your customers the worst user experience.
You will lose alot of customers like me. I stopped spending my R600 a month with you for Data. I am sure there are lots of unhappy customers like me that have and will move their Data service away from you.

My voice lines will be moving away within the next 30 days as well.

Vodacom will sink your whole Business case. They put Cell-C under they will do same to you. But we live in South Africa so decisive action takes long to happen by then you will be struggling for customers.

MTN - Roaming was surely way better.

I used your network 95% of the time and only roamed 5% when in rural areas on MTN which was great.

I feel sad that you have opened your legs for Vodacom to have fun.

If you cannot remedy the problem then maybe cancel your roaming agreement.

Please do a customer survey like how MTN did and you will see how unhappy your customers are.
Absolutely true

So update for 50 of our SIMs near Hermanus ....basically, they have been deprovisioned until they see a Telkom network! So if you live in an area where you used to rely on roaming (not that you would know as Telkom on MTN looked like Telkom), you have no signal, no calls, no SMS no data.

Moreover even when you get it to connect to Telkom-R the OOB Telkom page doesn't work - you can only get to vodacom's site! So you can't even tell it to go OOB. We are just testing now to see if buying any network data pinlessly helps (I don't think it is!)

This is a huge screw up by Telkom.

All a store says is 'try switching it on and off again'. How can they make such a huge change to their national network without any testing, warning or support!
We have been taken for a ride by Telkom, I regret having a contract with them, this is the worst seamless switch over roaming agreement with Vodacom, I guess they never tested their system before switching their roaming agreement, which left us customers with nothing, while our account are being debited during month end

So... Anyone got a solution yet.

My solutions will be to kill my Telkom contracts as they expire. A 20GB pm one is expiring August, will replace that with the current 20GB pm Vodacom special and save money. A 10GB pm one is expiring October I am thinking of getting that Cell C prepaid 30GB valid for one year bundle, I never a 10th of the contracts data and Cell C one can roam on MTN if needed. My 3rd contract I will end sometime next year, I'll just cancel that when done and have 0 Telkom contracts.

I am finally rid of Telkom in my life. Happy days.

All I can say to people who are ever considering using a service they provide is that they should run far away. Just don't go there. Ever.
