Big issues with Telkom roaming

I have been having issues with Telkom Mobile for a month now. Not only data but Voice calls also donot connect. Data purchased on Telkom Mo Nice does not work at all.

Dear Telkom the plan by Vodacom is to give your customers the worst user experience.
You will lose alot of customers like me. I stopped spending my R600 a month with you for Data. I am sure there are lots of unhappy customers like me that have and will move their Data service away from you.

My voice lines will be moving away within the next 30 days as well.

Vodacom will sink your whole Business case. They put Cell-C under they will do same to you. But we live in South Africa so decisive action takes long to happen by then you will be struggling for customers.

MTN - Roaming was surely way better.

I used your network 95% of the time and only roamed 5% when in rural areas on MTN which was great.

I feel sad that you have opened your legs for Vodacom to have fun.

If you cannot remedy the problem then maybe cancel your roaming agreement.

Please do a customer survey like how MTN did and you will see how unhappy your customers are.

I'm experiencing this even at places that's supposed to be having better coverage like the malls here in Joburg. Telkom Mobile network coverage is just sad tbh and I can't remember a time that it had better coverage than the other mobile providers. Hope that MyBB can get the right answers from Telkom Mobile in this and that they might be tempted into fixing this for their users. Sigh!

I recommend you consider either Vodacon or Emptyn now or face a long time of frustration. Telkom and Cell-C will never get good roaming deals from Emptyn or Vodacon its just not in their Best Interest.

Telkom WAS fantastic but its getting to their head which is a downfall.

So its most likely your problem will happen everywhere.

Noticed this a few days ago and immediately knew it was due to the new transparent roaming agreement.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that someone made higher ups aware of the fact that off-network data would be used while roaming on Vodacom's towers, yet the very same higher ups pushed forward with the switch over since they couldn't give a toss about subscribers. And here we are today.

I get around 20 of those SMS's a day and then there's the ever annoying "Refreshing Sim Data" message! Telkom, get your sh*! in line SON!

Big issues with Telkom roaming

Telkom mobile data subscribers who use the operator’s on-network data packages are reporting that they are being disconnected from the Internet, despite having more than enough data available.

The issue appears to be related to how Telkom has configured roaming connectivity on the Vodacom network, and comes after it switched from MTN to Vodacom as its roaming partner.
I made a thread about this month's ago and was ridiculed. I've since moved from Telkom this was unbearable even during the night had to put my phone on silent and had an emergency call during the night I missed because stock android cannot individually mute sounds for network signal changes

Why did telkom move to vodacom, because some one got paid by vodascum to ensure this happens, so vodacom can slowly cripple telkom who has provided us with affordable data, watch carefully how telkom deals will no longer be affordable like how vodascum took over i burst when they considered them a threat, be prepared to pay R149 a gig soon

The ideal option would be a USSD code to enabled or disable it as you want because you don't want it permanently disable or enable sometimes. Even a sms shortcode to enable or disable. Should be easy to implement. If enabled it should just block you from registering on 65505. If enabled it will allow you to register on 65505 or auto mode.

Hopefully they do implement something soon.
My Telkom only data is pointless when I go just about anywhere now, it keeps switching and spamming me with out of data messages.

Believe me, that's why I can't wait for the opportunity to cancel this Telkom DSL 20mbps, 100GB contract that includes my four sim cards giving me free Telkom calls to all Telkom numbers as well as 150MB on two of the simcards while on the other two simcards I get 1GB and no calls per month. I use one of the 1GB sims in my dual-SIM phone asking with my main prepaid Cell C simcard. Can't wait to buy myself a dual-sim phone that can handle the Rain sim card that I mainly use for work purposes atm. Still don't have access to Fibre to my place (they should change the current FTTH and FTTB to just be FTTP) either.

I agree 100%.

Telkom was threatening the big 2 so MTN made it difficult for them to renew roaming agreement by not improving the costs and not offering LTE. They moved now Vodacom can call the shots.

Its sad that only we see the obvious.

@jannievanzyl has been very quiet on this subject.

The roaming agreement with Vodacom is a total fkup. Both parties had more than 6 months to sort teething problems out.

Now it explains the mystery smses I was getting a few weeks ago. Had a Telkom LTE multi sim in my iPad that lives next to my bed, it must have been switching between them. Turned off cellular on the iPad as it was draining the battery and it stopped.

It's not a Vodacom issue it's a Telkom issue. I think Telkom chose to have vodacom broadcast 65505 as the network ID and name it TelkomSA -R so they can distinguish networks.

If they had vodacom towers broadcast 65502 which is Telkoms network id you won't even know you are roaming but that would have probably cause massive losses for Telkom.

Vodacom and Rain roaming is so seamless you don't even know you are roaming.

Telkom was supposed to just stick with MTN but with the seamless switchover or at least launched a ussd ot sms code to disable roaming.

Not all Vodacom towers seems to have been switched on for Telkom roaming.

This seems to be the biggest issue. Telkom R is active in areas with good TelkomSA coverage, but No Telkom R in areas with poor TelkomSA signal

Telkom R coverage is patchy to say the least.

@jannievanzyl would of come to Vodacom's defense had the issue been TelkomSA only.

Anyone from MyBB or Telkom with a solution on this yet.

Of our 200 SIM cards, most in the big metros were off for 10 or so hours, but have come back on. Another 20-40 outside of metro areas seem to be dead now, can't call, get SMS or data!

(And we have always been on all-net data!)

I've recently moved to Telkom from Afrihost due to the flexibility of their smart broadband connection. I actually just liked the idea that I remain connected to the network despite being out of data so I can manage my account online which you can't do with the Afrihost Cell C partnership. However this roaming issue has been the worst and has constantly made wonder if I made the right choice, and now with the statement they've sent to you mybroadband on how we should buy all network data to use when roaming, I truly think it has been the worst decision I've ever made since not wearing a condom.

I am sure there are lots of unhappy customers like me that have and will move their Data service away from you.

I known quite a few who are in the process of leaving telkom.

Its unreasonable to get an sms every little while to remind you that you are not on the telkom network.

I've not exactly used profanities on mybb, but a big F you to Telkom for going this route.
