Big issues with Telkom roaming

If you have the guts I'd cancel the contract unilaterally.

They have completely changed and screwed up the service, how can it be within the law that they can demand payment?

Please can we differentiate between Telkom and Telkom Mobile - they aren't the same thing and the headlines are both confusing and misleading when you fail to distinguish between them. Thanks.

No issues this side..

Telkom roaming implies Telkom mobile. No confusion.

I have a telkom ADSL line and not once made the connection between this thread and my Telkom ADSL account.

This isn't the only thread talking about Telkom mobile without stating so explicitly in the title.

But Telkom and Telkom Mobile is the same thing. It started as 8ta. Black and white simcards. Then changed to Telkom Mobile. Blue simcard with white writing Telkom Mobile. Now they are Telkom with blue simcards with just the word Telkom written on them. They are Telkom but the Mobile division.

Telkom rebranded from Telkom Mobile, their decision so they must live with it, go moan to them if unhappy about it.

actually what is worrying about that in conjunction with their stated goal of getting rid of copper is that they are clearly trying to become a mobile operator and not a telephone communications provider in any traditional sense.

whilst I agree that copper cables aren't exactly the future, there are vast swathes of the country that are ONLY serviced by copper ...

The MTN roaming is also completely disabled.

The only people that will benefit from this new roaming deal is Telkom Freeme deals.
I am on Telkom Freeme and believe me, the Vodacom roaming is not working. None of the settings that have been suggested work! Have been without data connectivity since the switch from MTN to Vodacom a month ago. The only way I am able to get full use of my mobile data is to drive to an area that has Telkom coverage. This is a pathetic situation.

Wonder when something will be done, really annoying I say and the way it forces your phone to switch is really scaley and should raise many questions

Called someone yesterday who is on Telkom and was roaming at the time and the call could not complete and says that the number I dialed does not exist.

Called the same number a few minutes later after they were back in Telkom coverage and then the call went through.

There's definitely something broken with the roaming when your sim can't receive or make calls when roaming and the person calling you gets the message that the number does not exist.

And still no solution to the roaming issue.

My current daily routine when I get to the office is to manually do a network scan and select Vodacom-SA in order to roam directly on Vodacom to be able to make and receive calls and SMS's. Roaming on TelkomSA-R ends up with my number not being able to make or receive calls. Even more of a concern is that if someone calls me when I'm connected to TelkomSA-R, they get a message that the number they dialed does not exist even though I'm connected to TelkomSA-R

When I leave the office I turn on automatic network selection as data does not work when roaming directly on Vodacom.

I'm at the point of cancelling my contract and converting to prepaid to port the number back to Vodacom.

Temporary solution to my problem is to leave sim 2 on automatic network mode with data through sim 2 and leaving sim 1 permanently roaming on vodacom directly.

This will allow me to make and receive calls on sim 1 while still being able to get data on sim 2 when I'm not on WiFi.

Haven’t noticed any issues on my Telkom Freeme sim when roaming in my Huawei P9 Plus.. did notice a lot of configuration sms coming through but haven’t accepted any, not my primary phone at least and sim 2 is Vodacom Prepaid no signal issues there either.

I am also at an end with Telkom and will query the costs to cancel the contract because I cannot continue like this. The irony of it all is that upfront message to note they have moved to vodacom for an improved experience for customers

I wonder if any of the telkom mobile executives even use their own product

This is super frustrating as there is still no response from Telkom after a month of looking for a solution.

We have now got to 100 SIMs swapped out from Telkom. It's sad as we've got a whole back end to manage their Sims... What a waste.

If anyone from PR or Telkom wants to talk about 4IR and what they should be doing, please DM me!

Going to do the same... Can't anymore with Telkom, and this constant issue with Telkom Roaming. Its frustrating now.
