Big Windows 10 update launched today

Decided to take the plunge and upgrade my desktop from 8.1.

Seems to be 100%, no troubles. Start8 still works, will probably leave that in place.

All apps seem to work. Happy

I uninstalled Start8 when I upgraded. Have to admit that I actually like the new Start Menu in 10.

Click on the start menu. Once it opens, immediately start typing the following: About Your PC.

Once it comes up, click on it.

What a shame. Do you really need to finish typing?

Is the ISO file saved onto the PC? How do you create the USB later?

ISO is saved in the folder (default My Documents).

Now it is important: Don't run this tool again!!! It will try to download again!!!

Many programs will create bootable USB stick from ISO: RMPrep, Rufus.

Yes I am aware that the media creation tool downloads a fresh copy every time you run it.

At the end of the process the tool claims it cleans up behind it.

What I have noticed that I now have 3 folders called "windows" on my PC. Windows, which I assume is the working copy, then Windows.old which looks like the version just before the latest re-install, and then Windows.old(1) which was the original "upgrade" from WIN-7

With all the hassles I had, I ended up doing a clean install of build 10240 from a memory stick.

Now the question is , Can these folders be deleted?

Relevant option is in Settings app for removing old OS files. I saw it somewhere, sorry already reverted to the old Windows.

Thanks will check. I see if I was to run clean up, that I would gain about 30 GB of space back taken up mainly by these old folders.

Windows claim they clear these old folders after 30 days, but That does not seem to be so as the one folder is dated August 2015.


I think I am going to wait a few weeks before doing the clean up ......

Windows 7 folder will be removed after one year. This is what they meant by saying that during one year after upgrade to Win10 you will be able downgrade to the previous OS.

Does anyone have the Mecer A890A and can say how Windows 10 runs on it?
