Biggest Transfer Flops

how can you say keane n berbatov have been flops when they have only been at their clubs for 3 months judge them on their first season not first 3 months

3 months? We almost at the half way mark for the season.

Keane hasn't been a flop !

...Let's judge him in May :D

Both of you are missing the point. As i stated in my first post in this thread. They have flopped so far!!!!!!

If they have a great end to the year, then they would prove that they are worth the pounds but so far how can you honestly say that they deserve those massive price tags?

So if you look at Henry at Barca in his first season. Did he flop? He was played and currently is still played out of position. If you dont produce the goods, you are a flop. This season he is playing like he did at his Arsenal days.

Everybody is trying to sugercoat it. Call it how it is. Even when Torres was playing, Keane never really did much.

IMHO you can only judge a player after their second season at a club. Acclimatising to a new club usually takes a whole season, for a league it can take up to two.

I had a look at Keane's goal, although he would have been expected to score, the way he took it on the half volley was amazing. That was a difficult way to score a goal.

One only needs to type in the words Keane Flop in google and you will get thousands of articles.

Why do you guys think he hasnt flopped? I agree that you dont judge a player over half a season. But you have to admit that he has flopped so far.

Liverpool ready to offload ÂŁ20m flop Robbie Keane in January, hints Anfield skipper Stevie G

Metro

The 28-year-old has struggled badly at Liverpool since his £20million move from White Hart Lane in the summer – even though the Reds currently sit at the top of the table.

Already there have been suggestions he could be shipped out of the club in January but Keane insists he is going nowhere.

The Irishman is still fighting the 'flop' claims that surround his summer switch to Merseyside...

Ya, the goal was pretty special. Brilliant!!

I would like to know how they judge these players though? Is it just based on goals scored?
We are sitting top of the league after the arrival of our flop Keane, while Manchester City are in the relegation zone even though they have the brilliant Robinho scoring goals for fun:)

Apparently Quaresma is also a big flop, I remember reading an article about the little effect he has had at Inter since his big money move from Porto

RQ has had a tough start which was to be expected with a new country and new league. The reason media calls him flop is to do with how much we paid for him.

I am still convinced him will come right it took c.ronaldo at man utd a season or so to find his best form. It took a legend like platini a year to find his feet at juve.

Robinho - top performer
how is he a top performer if he cannot score away from home + his side is sitting IN relegation zone?

I would consider that the BIGGEST FLOP!

IMO berbatov has been a average seeing as his goals are coming in the CL that should weigh more than the EPL...

but even so... look at rooney... when he first started at united he didn't score that much

It was a fairytale start to his United career and very much a sign of what was to follow. By the end of the 2004/05 campaign he’d amassed 17 goals in 43 appearances and was rightly named PFA Young Player of the Year.
for the price tag that was placed on his head...

Much was expected of the England’s 18-year-old hero of Euro 2004 when he swapped Everton, his boyhood club, for the Reds in August of that year. Yet becoming the world’s most expensive teenager - £20m rising to a possible £30m – did little to faze him.

so Berbatov on 6 goals after 14 games is already 11 away with 29 games to go :P

Rooney atm is sitting at 14 games and only 4 goals...

You guys are all missing the point here.

We are not saying they will prove to be flops for the rest of their careers. All we are saying is, if you spend that kinda of money - you need some sort of return on investment.

Robinho has scored goals consistantly - thats why he is a TOP and not a Flop :D

Dont even try and justify Berbatov by saying he scored in the CL. Who did he score against? Exactly!

I stream BBC football every week. Very good show! Actually excellent footy show. Last week, they were laughing at how Berbatov is at United. He looks so unhappy and sluggish on the pitch .Even they labeled him a Flop!

Lets be honest here. If you pay that much for a world class striker, how do you expect him to perform? In the league he has scored 2 goals in 13 games, is that ok for you guys? If that be it, then you okes have low standards.

If my club were to buy a striker for so much money, i would feel that he needs to prove himself and perform for the club for spending so much on him.
Can you honestly say that you okes are not dissapointed in Keane and Berba's form? I know I know, they have to settle in bla bla bla. But can u honestly say that up until now, they have proved to be money well spent?

ya I'm disappointed in berbatov to some degree... but hey look at Thierry Henry...

On 25 June 2007, in an unexpected turn of events, Henry was transferred to FC Barcelona for €24 million. He signed a four-year deal for a reported €6.8 (£4.6) million per season.[28]. He concluded his debut season as the club's top scorer with 19 goals in addition to nine league assists,

I guess it's all relative but I do agree with you about berba in the Spurs match... he looked sickly and unmotivated to play

Henry finished as the clubs top goal scorer in his debut season and was played heavily out of position. So I wouldnt call him a flop, also he was purchased for less than half of Berbatov.

@ fishfly - Ya, Henry never lived up to expectation in his first season. Im tempted to say he is a flop.

@ Supa - I agree he was bought for half the amount of Berbatov, but either way he never lived up to expectation. Compare Henry last season to the Henry of this season.

The thing is when you make big transfers like Berba or Robinho - the players HAVE to perform and show they were worth the money.

So far Keane and Berba has been the flops. Im not saying they wont be heros in the next half of the season but come on, they are not producing the goods so FOR NOW they are flops.

Transfers and whether they have been a success or not should be judged at the end of the season imho. Many of these paper hacks are just looking for a good story that's why they judge players so soon.

Exactly stefen9. Bet you 100 bucks that the same journos who were calling Deco a great signing will be calling him a flop at the end of the season. I dont take those Sky sports guys too seriously....

Sorry for not replying Genius, i havent been following the thread.
So your google search which throws out sources such as the mail, the metro and goal.com convinces you that hes a flop?
Give me a break!
Calling a player a flop after 3 full months at a club is just plain stupid in my book.

No, me watching football and knowing how he performs calls him a flop. I merely googled Keane Flop and was greeted with thousands of different sites.

If he isnt a flop, then what is he? Is his performance so far AMAZING? Has he lived up to his massive transfer price? If the answer to both those questions are no, then how can you say he is not a flop?

I think Deco is proving to be a flop - thats my personal opinion. Im glad Barca sold him. Sky sports is the number one broadcaster of football in the world. How can you say their presenters are a joke?

yeah its a matter of opinion... i know plenty liverpool fans and they all think hes worthless

Just because they are the biggest doesnt make them the best Genius. I prefere reading The Times and the Guardian.

Look its your right to call him a flop, i just dont understand why anyone whould do it after a player has been at a club for only 3-4 months.

Sky's already looking like the twats that they are for claiming that Deco is a brilliant signing, the very same journalists will be calling him a flop come May.

The Times and Guardian are also calling them flops. Everybody is. I dont think there is any journo out there actually saying that they have proved to be worth their transfer amount.

LoL - you think its only Sly sports that is saying that :D Everybody is saying they are flops.

Fromn the Times. ;) LoL

Lets face it, For Rafa to sign Robbie Keane was a mistake, a grave one at that considering the fee he paid for him. It seems he is beginning to realise that now and his recent treatment of Keane would suggest that he is trying to frustrate him and move him on to seek first tema footie elsewhere.

You dont honestly think that Keane hasnt flopped? You only think it is Sky sports journos? Come on Fern9do, its not that hard to admit. He has flopped up until now.
