Bike driver salary?

I just ask our GM, and he said for a motorcycle driver, between 5.4k-7.4k depending on experience and other tasks expected of the guy. Also mentioned that you must put clauses re. fines and accidents in his contract, to make sure those bases are covered as well.

Wow ok then I know people that will be willing to work for R7.4k and just do deliveries and some factory work

We don't have or need bike drivers atm, or ever, we don't have any right now anyway, not sure if we ever will. He said that they are more expensive that a regular driver, apparently.

Can't you work out a quota? R/km driven. Work out the route on google maps to double check what he/she has logged.

There's a difference between being frugal (cutting unnecessary costs) and being a miser (cutting costs at the benefit of others or even themselves).

I would think R5000 + performance bonus would be decent.
No one wants to/can afford to work for R2500 per month. After food, shelter (because they wouldn't even be able to dream of living in anything other than a cave on this amount) and transport they will have nothing left. This further perpetuates the problem of people living in debt etc. Pay a person an honest wage for an honest days work and incentivise their performance to get the maximum out of that person.

Using the minimum wage argument is just a cop out. Just because it is their doesn't mean that's the go to price. You go work (menial or otherwise) for 8 hours a day, get minimum wage and tell me how you feel when you get your pay at the end of the month. You have to be a disgusting low life piece of trash human being to think it's Ok to pay people such a pittance.

Our packers are paid transport separately, rest of us pay from our salaries.

Is this now for during office hours doing deliveries, or for their own transport costs for getting to work?

The driver will use the company bike for deliveries, petrol is naturally covered by the company.

NP, note that we are Gauteng-based, so maybe you could get away with a bit less in the Cape. Although, we have an office in Cape Town (Brackenfell, if that matters), so can't imagine it would be much less, if anything.

Our cleaners a very well known cleaning company pays their staff who works 8 hours a day cleaning out dustbins, cleaning toilets and so on R 4.5k a month. Hard arse labour. This driver will be riding a bike 90minute a day and expects to be paid R 5k?
 
Pay Scale SA puts the median at R4900 pm for a delivery driver.
R2872 minimum.

Me - I would pay the guy R3000 pm, get him registered as a business, and claim some BBBEE points on it.
 
R3,000 basic. R500 a month incentive for not being absent. N maybe a yrly bonus for being absent less than a certain amount of days, no fines or accidents.
 
Maybe I could add this:

Don't let him/her sit around for half a day when he/she is free.

Pay the person a decent wage and if the person is dedicated, invest in them by giving them workplace education in their free time.

This way, you can formally train the bike-driver to move into a better position at the company, or at the very least, give them an opportunity to double their income with recognized skills.

Plus there should be a way to write it off your books as tax-deductible or something.

As a company, your main goal may be to make a profit, but along the way I am sure you can help a few of the low-wage staffers with some education to better their lives too.

Except that if he works only for you, he will be requalified very quickly by SARS as your employee. Without counting an eventual CCMA case . I wouldn't play with that !
 
R6-7.5K/m at least. Be generous. Incentivise. Dangle bonuses for performance.

Oh, small point. There's no such thing as a bike driver. It's a rider.
