Binge Drinking! ~ Moose Calls Time!

@thestaggy at least you would have woken up next to someone you know.

I've been unfortunate enough to wake up in someone's house with only her parents there having to sneak out of the house with nothing but a shirt and shorts having to walk home barefoot about 7k's, no idea where my stuff is, whos house that was or where tf my car went and how I got there, that sucked proper.

Also the shorts I had were not mine so they were very small and thin and I had to walk through a shopping complex with everyone looking at my swinging sausage because that is the only path I knew home.

I think the problem here is not the drink, it is where you drink. I drink at my own house and that keeps things safe and more-or-less civil.

Also the people you drink with play a massive role. Okes with whom you can sit around a fire and talk kak till the sun comes up are much rarer than those who insist on tequila shots every 10 minutes.

@thestaggy yeah that's pretty nasty, TBH. Condolences, hope you can work it out in the end. I used to binge a lot as well, but always did it at someone's house. The amount of times I wasn't pulled over while leaving Hatfield square while people before and after me all got pulled over is shocking. I simply can't believe I was that lucky back then.

Curious to know just how much extra money you have each month without the booze, that stuff adds up after all.
I know you're not talking to me, but it made me do some calculations.

7 quarts per day after work works out to around R105
One box of Peter Stuyvesant costs around R40
Sol it costs me around R145 per day
or R2 900 (R145 x 20) per month drining 5 days a week.
On Saturdays I drink a bit more and Sundays a bit less, so it balances out to an average of R145 as well.
So R1 160 for 4 weekends of drinking per month

That gives a total of R4k per month when I drink every day. Yes, I only drink beer.

Looking at it from a financial point of view has opened my eyes that I'm pissing away quite a bit of money. However, @Mortymoose and @thestaggy made me realise that alcohol has played a role whenever I was in trouble during my social life!

I too, shall be putting my foot down - perhaps not becoming a complete teetotaler, but at the very least cutting down or completely eliminating the drinking during the week.

I've also cut down after this thread. Worked my way through non-alcoholic beers that I made a while ago over the past few weekends, and tasted my low-ABV lager last night. It's coming along nicely. I'll be brewing more and more low-ABV beers in the future. It is the future for me.

Hopefully with time. My formerly close friend and I acknowledged that we'll still cross paths because we frequent the same places and events, but she'll never see me in the same light. Not so much out of anger, more disappointment.

As for 'Z', I don't plan on contacting her and I wouldn't be surprised if I never hear from her again.

Life lesson. Aiming for 30-days and some clear thinking.

Definitely safer at someone's house, but what often happened in my experience is one or two in the group get the urge to see flashy lights and hear loud noises (usually me) and so you end up looking for the nearest DJ or live band. Or if there are women in the group, they want to go dancing. A lot safer nowadays with Uber though.

I've had my moments of waking up at home and not knowing how I got there.

I remember the days where I still drank a lot as well, long ago. Would easily drink large amounts of money away.

Yoh bra. Are you not babelas at work after drinking 7 quarts in the evening?

I'm always babalas, but I'm used to it.
Lol I used to drink a lot during the week in my twenties, now in my early-mid thirties I realized I can't do it anymore. Hangovers are just too bad. I still binge drinking on every other weekend though. usually spend around R250-400 if at home or R450-1000 when at a bar.

Yup, it takes a lot longer for me to revover - especially when I have spirits, which is exactly why I avoid them.

As a perk, my work gives me the option of full flexi, I'm only forced to come to the office if there's a meeting (non-teleconference). Over the last few months I've decided to come to the office every single day because when I work from home, by around 12, I'd be busy making a fire to braai a steak and sit with a few beers. In other words, funny as it may sound, it became too expensive for me to work from home!

So - I found no alcohol has led to around 1500-2000/week in my pocket.

We went away for a long weekend - of 3nights, and Didn’t buy 12 bottles of wine +1.5cases of beer (and no emergency run to the store OR to the bar). We did go to a fancy wine farm for lunch, and while it was expensive, no wine meant it felt like a steal. This Felt like it was a “free” weekend :-)

Only issue there was - I had the pleasure of someone crashing into my palisade fencing at home while we were away. And had a drain problem at the holiday house, so I was shoveling water and poop. And after all that I didn’t revert back to a beer for destressing, rather did a 15 run when we got home :-)

Good times!

i dont think its the wine that make the ppl go on but its more bout the kind of wine the mense drink like the guy did say he was rude to his friend but maybe its coz he did drink the shots coz i know i also go on when i drink sak but when i drink biere then i only pee alot and dance and chise kinners

yeah, I'm about R1 000 a week , three day sat the rugby tends to gobble the cash.
Especially if you buy a couple rounds for the buddies that do not have...

I think that can play a role. But not just the type of alcohol, the rate at which it is consumed. And especially when it comes to shooters. My choice of shooter is straight Jagermeister. That's 36% alcohol down at a time and we get them as a group (everyone buys a round), so before you know it, you've had 4/5 shots in the space of 2/3-hours. That hits you hard and your brains go out the window. And if you are not active and just sitting at a table or standing around the bar, I find the alcohol hammers you even harder.
