The system specs are:
Biostar T-Force SLI mboard
PCI-E Ati 256mb X1600
1b DDR-400 Ram
AMD 3500+ CPU
400W PSU
2x80gb Hard Drives
1000A UPS

This is what happened:
Whilst the system was on and running a sudden *bang* was heard and the main switch box of my house tripped the power. Upon closer inspection of the system I found the *bang* was the fuse on the power supply which completely shattered the outer glass casing.

The damage this bang caused:
Burnt Motherboard
Burnt CPU
Fried UPS
Fried Power Supply

The memory survived and I have not checked the HDD or the Video Card

The system was running on a Thermaltake cooler system so it ran cold and the power supply was brand new, the UPS had a brand new battery installed and it was hooked up to another system of which there was no damaged caused to it at all.

My question is not how to fix it as it is obvious this system is for the trash can, my question is HOW this happened and WHY this happened.

There was no power surge and the UPS still turns on but it beeps all the time even with power attached to it meaning its stuffed. The system was not overclocked, overheated or any other tampering to it.

Its about 2-3 years old I bought it new.

Could the cause be the PSU or is biostar just a crap manufacturer?

Your answers would be appreciated.

Depending on the brand of the PSU, it might've been that you suffered the inevitable curse of cheap PSUs

this is getting quite popular now, it seems as though the whole country is being plagued with these horrid PSU and these are destroying peoples pc's...

Now I think that these crappy psu's have always been around, I just think it might be because of the new power demands that gfx cards offer, and the website say you need 450watts, and when money's tight, people buy el cheapo stuff...

The PSU is a Microlab 400w, I had a 550w on it before and bought the 400w when I upgraded to a new computer, dont know about the cheap side as it cost me R450 last year when I bought it and the 550w cost me R450 when I bought it a month ago. But if the new PSU burns my new pc I am going to unleash the wrath on the pc shop I bought it from.....
