Bird Photography

Call it development of skills in a controlled environment. Had a look - Good stuff. Some very good pix there !

Why is so difficult to photograph these little buggers?
LBJ in grass.
LBJs are tricky - they move around a lot - maybe to reduce the likelihood of being someone else's lunch? Looks like a non-breeding plumage Yellow Bishop.

Although it was very quiet and not a lot of birds I still had a great morning at ARMBS. Got better shots than the previous time. But still struggled and pondering whether this really is for me or not.

And definitely my favourite shot of the day.

Purple Heron. (The friendly retired couple with the book on birds helped me when I asked what I just saw :))

I'm going to upload them all to Flickr and will share link here. The forum resizing causes pixelation at the edges and the last shot was crisp.

I thought I'd bring the standard of this thread down a bit by posting some stationary birds :)

Red-whiskered bulbul. (on Flickr) Shot this one with a macro lens :)

Lilac-breasted roller. (on Flickr) Run-of-the-mill Nikkor 70-300 zoom.

I like your clarity/detail on feathers/colour...:) which macro lens for first one?

Thanks!

That one was shot with a 105 mm f/4 AI Nikkor --- based on the serial number it must be about 35 years old. I do cheat a bit when focusing, relying mostly on the focus indicator while focusing manually. Never could seem to get good focus by just looking through the viewfinder alone (this is on a D7000).

Beautiful fvdbergh

Thanks!

One day I should man up and work on some BIFs :)

Your shots are great! What lens did you use for the third shot in message #8 (first page of this thread)? I really like the smoothness of the background in that one.

Thanks.

All three those shots were taken with Nikon D7100 and Tamron 70-200mm F2.8.

These little things are impossible to photograph in flight. And believe me, I tried for about 40min on Sunday.

So so fast.
