A bit late, but nevermind...

On 14 January 2005 one Vodacom3g posted a message that Vodacom would drop data rates from R20 per MB to R2 per MB.

This message was sensored almost instantly by RPM - as it seemed to be a to-good-to-be-true hoax - and actually unveiled again a short time later as confirmed TRUE!

We forgot to celebrate the second anniversary of his participation.

The message he posted heralded the acknowledgement of the telecoms industry that MyADSL was indeed a power in the sector.

Since then V3G has contributed in may ways. Many of us were assisted in getting service problems solved which were impossible to solve via the official channel.

In spite of taking a lot of flack for the doings (and not doings) of Vodacom, V3G has remained an example of patience.

Thanks V3G for staying with us, and best wishes for the future!

kaspaas has summarised rather succinctly there, there can be no doubt that v3g has facilitated resolution of countless problems experienced by forumites, and thus has earned respect and deserves credit for all his hard work, Happy Anniversary v3g :).

Happy B-Day and thanks V3G for all your efforts!

'sniff'....thanks everyone :o

It, of course, works both ways. It's easy to hang out here as the level of contribution from the user community is of an exceptional standard.

From a company perspective, not endorsing a group like myADSL, whose comments, suggestions and contributions are always valued, is just plain silly.

And, on a personal note, nice to have met a bunch of like-minded people!

/me sings Heppy Birthday.. :)

V3G is to definately be more than commended for his efforts and patience, esp in dealing with us mad-men....

And I have just decided he owes me a beer or 90 for HSDPA giving me grief on the night that the hunt for 50k in TK was on..... :D

Was it really R20 a MB??

Oh , that reminds me to buy V3G 2 six packs.

1 for the Birthday boy

And 1 for the agreement of preventing ToxicBunny of standing in my way! :D

Happy BDAY and thanks

A blast from the past...

Actually makes great reading :)

All the discussions if 3G would take off and if it's viable (currently growing much faster than ADSL!).

Kaspaas wondering if it's a good business opportunity to supply GPRS modems for ad-hoc users at the new prices. (He turned it into a great business, btw.)

mc721221 (now wallace) actually complimenting Vodacom! A first and a last! :) (hopefully not)

halicon asking for a laptop bundle....

We had some interesting ideas back then. See I posted that most people would use mobile phones as modems and not data cards!

I remember either rabbiddog or harley79 driving around with his laptop strapped in the passenger seat as a mobile VoIP phone! The joys of data mobility at a decent speed. (And we never charged him R10/Mb!)

Yeah its an interesting thread:) Only 2 years ago too, that's one thing that has to be said, the cell networks, Vodacom especially, certainly roll out the latest tech, 3G, HSDPA etc. far faster than Telkom ever could, and at much better prices relative to the rest of the world too. It just seems expensive here because unfortunately we have to look at it as an ADSL replacement I guess.

I can honestly say that v3g's participation on the forum has changed my opinion of Vodacom. I have found his participation to be exceptional and inspirational.

I informed V3G of a (new) problem with 3G reception in my area, as an aside to another request... Less than 18 hours later a technician from Vodacom phoned me to make an appointment to come out to assess the situation. This is more than I ever achieved phoning the Please Hold - Your Call is Not Important to us, Helpless or Customer Dont-Care lines!

Go V3G!!

If only all consultants (from any network) were as helpful as him...
