BitCo Consumer Review

Hi prodigyX

Your speed gets slowed down to about half your line speed. The 10Mb link gets slowed down to 5Mb and only if you hammer it for about 1 hour which most people never do unless they are doing heavy downloading of torrents.

Hello i am interested in BitCo Telkom is driving me Crazy we have a rather Large L shapped house and would like to know in meters how far does BitCo Signal travel in your house we need a min of 20 meters? any help would be much appreciated:confused::)

I am guessing one link with a wifi range extender if need be will do. Else a 20 M Lan cable to a second router on the other side.

Hi JeanP

We supply a quality Wifi access point free with all our Home links to enable Wifi throughout your house. 20m should not be a problem unless you have a lot of thick walls in the path. Rule of thumb... place it in the middle of your house.

thank you for your response yes our current router is in the middle of the house were currently with Mweb and when it was first installed it work wonderful but for the past month it has gotten worse and worse and were very ready to move away from a fixed line our main worry was that this router will not reach but as you stated it will reach :D

Ugh, the technicians checked for LOS yesterday but couldn't get a perfect signal. They needed to submit a report to HO and I am now waiting to hear the outcome.

I suppose that's the one downside to living in the world's largest man made forest.

Would LOS matter if you're about twice the distance from a tower than the coverage radius?

Yeh also no LOS from Bitco here, try one of the other wireless providers, if you are not sure just signup on wapa.org.za, I am getting mine installed Monday from comtel

Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to go that route if Bitco aren't able to assist.

Yeh their technician mumbled something about maybe bumping the signal off another tower and they will submit a report but meh, nothing came out of that and never heard back, but wasn't expecting much from the beginning because I could see on their coverage map the chances of the LOS were almost 0. Cool though if you do get a solution they do appear to be making more of an effort than other wireless isps.

Garth,

Just a quick question, are you guys redirecting DNS traffic (port 53 UDP) ?

I ask because I was trying to do something with Unotelly and even when specifying their DNS caching servers, I was still not able to resolve stuff which you can only resolve while using their caching servers, almost like DNS traffic was being intercepted and redirected to your caching servers.

Can you please try using the local South African servers only:

196.46.185.44
197.242.94.51

You will also need to flush your DNS after changing.

Jip they are. Try putting port:5353 with the unotelly dns. Thats how i resolved my netflix errors.

please add 197.189.212.164 to your list - it's their new Johannesburg Server.

You received a purchase order yet? Got mine just now.

No purchase order. I did get a call yesterday to arrange a LOS test for Wednesday next week. Holding thumbs that everything pans out, really tired of not having a decent internet solution available considering I live a stones-throw away from Fourways.

NightCrawlerNic how would you connect 2 routers using an ethernet cable?

I am going to order the 10mb next week can't wait sounds very promising. I will post speed/ping results as soon as its up and connected don't see 10mb speed results posted anywhere yet.

Edit: Just requested the quote for the 10mb will order as soon as quote has been recieved.
