BitCo Consumer Review

What's your telkom story? :)

Where do I start... Max Telkom ADSL is 4mbps. Vodacom, MTN, Telkom Mobile and CellC all have little or no 3G / LTE. Asked Telkom for a second 4mpbs line in May - still not installed and they booked 2 full days over as many weeks for installation and there is always a problem somewhere. The service is still not in.

BitCo seems to be a good alternate... :) Would love to dump that incompetent BLUE..

I'm also limited to 4mb, been waiting for 10mb since I got ADSL in 2009 :( Although my exchange is congestion free and have great line stats (12mb), I want more speed  but I don't think I would have LOS although I'm in the coverage area.

On the bright side, my area is up for this 100mb FTTH according to MyBB, but if I try "register" interest on their website, I just get a server error, go figure. :)

I didn't even consider the bonding lines option, sounds complicated :)

I hear you on the 2 weeks lead time but it should take 2 weeks to make the arrangements... ok ok its only been 2 days I have been waiting

ok so I got a phone call from Bitco a couple of hours after the above post... and ...wait for it.... yes.... it was installed by 16:30 on the same day. Wow I was impressed. It has not been handed over yet. I will check with them this morning.

I do have a grip though, the dish is huge!!!! I have a 3m pole with a 70cm dish on the top of it. We have a wireless provider with a 15mb link where I work and we have a small square device on top the pole. It looks a lot better.

Bitco i do think that this is going to be a problem for some home users. Even if they have permission from their body corporates, they may get complaints due to the size.....

Garth, could someone please checkout my connection, or in particular the tower I'm connected too.

We have 3 people in our complex using bitco and we all seem to be having random lag spikes, mine in particular is in wow.
Pings are around 195ms but every so often it feels like there is packet loss / lag spike.

This is the EXACT same issue I had a week or so ago, sometimes the actual latency number doesn't even go up, but lag spike is very noticeble.

Edit: I had issues with CSGO again over the weekend, but some of those servers are so dodgy, its hard to determine where the issue is, that said, I spent some time in WoW as well over the weekend with no issues

The gain of the dish at your work will be a lot less than this dish. It might also be that at your work you make use of different frequencies. My opinion is that having a 70cm dish on your roof is a small price to pay for decent internet.

Uhm 90% of people in our complex have dstv dishes, anyone that wants to complain about my bitco dish which isn't even a 3rd of the size can STFU:D

Yeah, playing Arena in wow this weekend was almost unplayable (at least for pushing rating). Everything would be going nice and responsive at 190ms and then suddenly it was like I was link dead for about 5 seconds and then responsive again. Running actual pings during this time didn't so any packet loss or drop in connection, and netflix didn't have this issue.

This makes me think it could be something relating to UDP traffic as ICMP (pings) and TCP (Netflix) were fine.

I'm obviously just speculating here.

A Body corporate cannot as you to remove it unless they are able to provide you with a suitable alternative of the same quality.

I have to mention this here today as I feel it needs to be said. :o

It's holiday and my kids are ripping the connection a new one. During the week during the day it's obviously not being used, however at night and especially this weekend... yoh. Kids was watching that show called "Waverly place" or somthing THE WHOLE DAMN WEEKEND!!! Never left the living room for anything appart from eating and taking a crap (I actually got annoyed with them)
Anyway, Wife was Watching Breaking Bad on the Ipad also THE WHOLE DAMN WEEKEND. (I'll admit I prob enjoyed the show more than she did. I aslo played a few games inbetween.

At times I would say about 3 times the whole weekend. I had to get the kids to hold a bit before loading a new show as the quality dropped on the Ipad. Appart from that we had flawless internet the whole weekend.

Brilliant Bitco, just amazing. Just wish the holidays would end. Kids make me look like an internet glutten but I'm not .

Fantastic jobs guys, I'm extremely happy.

Wikkels88 how big is your Bitco dish? My dish is bigger than dstv dish.... :(

Also remember that a bigger dish results in a much tighter beam-width...less interference from adjacent noise which coupled with increased gain is a big plus!

This is exactly what you want - a big dish. The small stuff is for short distance links only. You will have few (if any) issues with a big dish like that. ;)

For a Body Corp, ideally FTTH is needed or a single dish installation (100Mbps) that is then distributed from that point.

so the BitCo people was here on Wednesday last week testing LOS and taking photos said they see some LOS then they left and said wait for the call from BitCo was told i have have an answer by tuesday morning at the latest i live in Lombardy East i am hoping for good news :D:D

Hey guys , so the guys came to do a LOS test , I have perfect line of sight but am 8.6km away from the highsite. They said the max is 8km. So they took pictures and they said the office will call me in 3 days. I wanted to know if you guys think there still might be a chance for me. Maybe garthvs has some idea because I think he said at some point that their coverage map was a bit on the cautious side. Really hoping we can do something.

This is pretty close to me. It all depends greatly on the actual LOS. Your Highsite the one towards Capital park's side?

Only 8km? That indeed is surprising considering the dish being used. I guess it's yet another measure to keep quality of service high.

Yep I think it might be the one there or the one on the mountain close to Wonderboom. I think they were pointing more towards the mountain but I could be mistaken. The two guys were young and maybe they just don't want to take any risks , so maybe I still stand a chance :)
