Well, after today all I can say is thank you BitCo!
All my problems are sorted and the team came out and finished up the Install.

My only question is what happens next?
I know there is a 24hr or so testing period but I now have this "BitCo Home" wireless network that I have no access to. I don't know what the password is, will I be told tomorrow when my line is handed over?

Did BitCo launch a new site? I've only seen it now and it's a stunner. Well done!

I was told it will be about a 24 hour wait until everything is ready for me to use, so hopefully around lunchtime tomorrow I'll have access :)

I will post speedtests and ping tests tomorrow.

I'm glad you guys could work it out. Welcome to the Bitco family. They will give you the details on the call to tell you the handover is completed.

My line should be activated today. Can not wait to get through this day and stream some HD youtube. I would like to thank Telkom for being completely incompetent and forcing members of the public to search for alternative connectivity means. You have been a great help at being completely useless.

@garthvs

I have signed up for the one year contract. Is my speed set to 5mb for the entire 12 months, or can I upgrade later to 10mb?

You can upgrade at any time. If you downgrade though to let's say 2Mbps in that 12 months you might have a clawback. That you will have to discuss with Grath.

They have helped you make the best decision of your life. Well that was my case anyway :p

I think I might get to a point where I will have to sue Bitco for the fact that my kids don't do anything as of late but be on the internet. They used to struggle so much they actually played outside. That has not been the case since I got Bitco :D

First world problems :D. Get a dial up connection just for them. Show them how we struggled pre ADSL.

Hi Guys

I have a thatch roof house so installing on that will obviously be a no no. In preparation for my site test, how is power supplied to the external dish? Is it pure PoE? If so, what is the maximum recommended length of the cable?

Ideally, if I can have it mounted on the perimeter wall instead of the house I'd prefer that.

Bump for the above

Now I'm impatiently waiting for the phone call for activation. At least I can still watch youtube on 144p...

I would love to know this answer too.

@garthvs how is the wiring done inside the house from the dish to the switch? Are you able to go through existing conduits or you will need to have a wire running on the wall to the switch?

Mine goes on the wall. Didn't really have another option.

I had this same problem at my house.

I used a hot glue gun to glue the cable neatly onto a corner run and once painted you can barely see the cable.

Activated!

Will do some tests and will provide some feedback on the 10mb option. So far I am able to watch YouTube at 1080p without buffering, Twitch works on source settings without buffering. Good riddance Telkom.

Hi Sparky_za

Yes, the dish is powered via POE. We don't like going more than 60 meters although the standard allows up to 100m.

Mine is going to be borderline 60m. Quick measurement yesterday gave me 48m not including up the wall on each end.

Is there a particular cable type I should look at?
